I have a chance to see a local guy do The Santaland Diaries. But smething inside tells me that it would not be as funny with David himself. Would you go see someone do Sedaris?

David's stuff is very good and to go see someone else read or act any of his stuff would be...disturbing. 
david sedaris is hilarious and poignant, I've heard him on an NPR show, "This American Life". he's books are a riot but it's loads better to hear him speak. go to This American Life
Just got done reading "Dress Your family in Corderoy." Planning to steal "Me Talk Pretty Some Day from my mother. Sorta the HST of the NPR scene. Glenn's Homophobic Quarterly is a riot. And the story about him dating Mike Tyson leaves me in stitches everytime I hear it. But anything about The Rooster is the best.
Love DS, I've got all his books, I caught the tail-end of a reading he did from "Dress Your Family" on Letterman so that's the extent of my hearing-him-speak experience. I wouldn't go to see somebody perform another person's work if that author is still walking around or is known for great readings (like Sedaris is). 
Glenn's Homophobe Newsletter is great, I love most of Me Talk Pretty and all of Naked. the latest book was alright by comparison but is good in its own right
