Songs to the Siren

with all this talk about NO's upcoming cd title "Waiting for the Sirens call", it reminds me of very special album called "Songs to the Siren" off the 4AD label many moons ago, it has the Cocteau Twins' Liz Fraser, Dead Can Dance and other artists contributing to this brilliant album produced by Ivo. Any fans of this album by 'This Mortal Coil'?

Unless I've missed something, the track "Song To The Siren" was a single taken from TMC's "It'll End In Tears" album.

The follow up, "Filigree & Shadow", is one of my all time favourite albums of all time, mate...!!!

Certainly does! And "Sixteen Days - Gathering Dust", the other side of the 12", is an absolute monster too.

Yup, great song, and the Cocteau Twins were still playing it on their last tour in 1996. Cover of a tune by the late, great Tim Buckley which is well worth acquiring in itself.

oops...I meant "It'll End In Tears" by This Mortal Coil, "Songs To The Siren" was a track off that album done by Liz Fraser and "Filligre & Shadow" their second project was quite good as well. I guess the thread should read "It'll End In Tears"...

"Holocust", "Kangaroo" and "Songs to the siren" are my favs.

Love the song, both the original and the cover by TMC. Now all I've gotta do is find that video of Buckley on The Monkees show singing that song.....

This Mortal Coil's version is a fantastic track. Very haunting. David Lynch wanted to use it in "Blue Velvet" but couldn't afford the rights, so he scribbled out some lyrics on a napkin and had Angelo Badalamenti lay down some music that would become Julee Cruise's song "Mysteries of Love." Of course, he could afford the song by the time he made "Lost Highway" since it is used so prominently and effectively in that movie.

Nah, I don't Chris, though I had heard that she was collaborating with him on the 1-2 project. Also heard that it was not available in the shops (but through their website) - have you listened to it and do you rate it? I absolutely love 'A Secret Wish' - one of my top ten albums, as well as the remix version. Duel was just the perfect pop song, and Claudia's voice could shatter ice. I picked up the last Propaganda reissue which includes alternative mixes of various songs - black sleeve, released about 3 years ago.

Julee Cruise is a hottie; I like the track "I'm Deranged" by David Bowie off the "Lost Highway" soundtrack.
