The Perfect Lead Singer

Those of you who used to watch G.I. Joe in their youth will remember how Serpentor was created -- the perfect leader formed of the DNA of the most feared leaders in the history of mankind -- Stalin, Hitler, Napoleon, Alexander The Great, Attila The Hunt, etc.

Now, if you could take the DNA of lead singers in the history of music and make THE PERFECT LEAD SINGER. Who would it be and why ?

My take :

  • Mick Jagger
  • Freddie Mercury
  • Ian Curtis
  • David Gahan

Jagger because he defined what a lead singer should be. Incredible charisma and talent. Mercury because very few people could light up a crowd like him and move so much on a stage without losing his breath when singing. Curtis because he was possessed. Gahan because he's not too far behind Freddy Mercury when it comes to lighting up a crowd. Always full of energy. All of them are/were incredible live acts.

I voluntary omitted Michael Jackson. We don't want the perfect singer to be a pedophile now, don't we? :ignore:

Also, for the females, I'd go with:

  • Madonna (who else?)
  • Tori Amos (because of the strange halo surrounding her)
  • Shirley Manson (because she always gives herself fully on stage)
  • Cindy Lauper (because of her endless energy)

Your take now. :)

You got to put bono on that list. Love or hate U2, Bono is incredible live.

The perfect lead singer? Ian Curtis. Why? Watch his performance of She's Lost Control on Something Else.

Dave Gahan (cause everytime I hear his voice I CUM  ) + Morrissey + Barney of course cause he sounds just like a child

Dolores O'riordan + Annie Lennox (cause she's scary) + Cortney Love (cause she's a bitch)+ C. Lauper (cause she's crazy)

I think that Midge Ure would play the role very well. At least, he hasn't lost his voice as others like Bono.

For a male lead singer, I'd want a mixture of a young Bono (his presence), Ian McCulloch (voice), Serge Gainsbourg (for his hilarious perversion), and Jacques Brel (who gave more effort live than anyone else I have ever seen).

For a female, I would give Madonna a good singing voice and then you have a perfect female singer.

For males, I suppose a cross of Ian, Nick Cave, David McComb, which'd be an intense individual with stage flair and some interesting lyrics.

Females: Sally Timms (lovely voice and wicked sense of humour), Neko Case (stage presence and voice as well) and Madonna for sex appeal, though I'm hardly a fan of hers; it's not like I was gonna list Ashlee Simpson or something......:skeptic:

I'd add gibby from the Butthole Surfers because a great singer needs to be able to play with fire and shotguns during a gig.

the dance of Mr. Curtis, the voice of Dave Gahan, a little Robert Smith, a touch of Charles Thompson, and a smattering of Danny Elfman!

for womenfolk, Lisa Gerrard is already a goddess, but she doesn't have the sexy purr of Shirley Manson.

Hmmm, interesting question. For fellas, I guess someone between Ian C and Jello Biafra for intensity, plus a little of each of Jeff Tweedy, Michael Stipe and Guy Picciotto for vocal stylings.

And the ladies: A little of each of Alison Goldfrapp for vocal skills and looks, Laurie Anderson for strangeness, Patti Smith for attitude and good old Aretha for the pipes... For what it's worth... CTB :bear:

Brett Anderson. Bono.

I think they have a decent voice.

Don't forget a bit of Lux Interior (The Cramps). He would add gratitude and audience appreciation. LOux bows after every song, where's leather pants and humps the microphone stand on occasion. A true gentleman in the world of Rock.

I agree with having David Gahan as one part of an ideal lead singer, mostly for his projects. But, I'd also add Neil Tennant, because his pitch always seems consistant live. Morrisey, too, because of his stage presence.
