Factory University (FAC 911), affectionately known as Fac U, is located in the heart of beautiful Manchester, England. A world-class educational institution since its opening in February 2005, Fac U is home to a diverse student body who engage in stimulating classes taught by some of the world’s foremost authorities.
Fac U was founded by Anthony H. Wilson, former director of Factory Records and its subsequent incarnations. After running several wildly successful independent record labels, Wilson wanted to bring his expertise to a younger generation. Drawing upon his years of experience in numerous fields, he has assembled a faculty of experts and guest lecturers to guide students in the creation of their own conceptual record labels. Wilson currently serves as Dean of the University.

As per Wilson’s original vision, Fac U does not believe in letter grades. Instead, students develop portfolios of their work as real world training. Faculty members allow students unrestricted freedom in creating their own course of study. In fact, completing assignments on time is not even a requirement—especially in the Graphic Design department.

An added privilege for all Fac U students is unlimited access to the Manchester area nightlife. A Fac U student ID card guarantees exemption from all cover charges at local establishments. The Fac U campus itself is home to twelve different student-organized nightclubs and live music venues.* Every dormitory is equipped with its own dancehall.
