Had to relay this story from work...

We have a lad at work from Norwich...that's in England for those of you that didn't know...we were all sitting at lunch the other day, when one of the Americans asked him how long he had been in the states...he answered a little over a year...

this stupid gal asked him how he had picked up the language so quickly...

John sat there befuddled for a moment...then replied, well, English is named after England...

I don't think the young lady has picked up on that YET!!!!

Stupid fooking Americans!!!

I went to England many years ago for vacation. At work one day, just before I left, my co-workers and I were discussing my impending trip, and one of them asked if I speak the language.

At the time, I thought she was just daft. Years later, after reflecting on it, I began to suspect she was just toying with me.

Now I wonder...

Who cares, the US will all be speaking spanish by 2020 anyways

Americans are stupid. You heard it here first, folks.

Thanks for that Public Service Announcement, Jeff.

It's not HERE I heard it first. ;)

Who were the "fooking" idiots that decided to wear "BRIGHT RED" coats when the Americans decided it would be better to camouflage themselves when engaging in battle?

Who lost most of their territories? Who is stuck on a crappy, dingy, and foggy island in the middle of nowhere?

Who feels stupid now?

Stupid fucking Brits....

Uh oh - the American from our Middle East has fired back. Oh shit, now we've got Steven in his fucking tank headed toward my office. God Save the Bush!

I hate George Bush...he is a worthless president. In fact, the worst in American history.

I was trying to be sardonic...I don't give two shits about our country being a superpower...but it was pretty stupid to wear bright red coats, making it very easy for the enemy to spot you...you have to admit.

In general, our country is pretty clueless about a lot of things. Have you ever seen Jay Leno's "jay-walking"...that is a pretty good cross section of how stupid our country has become. You'll be lucky if you can get someone that actually knows who our Vice-President is, let alone what dialect is spoken in England.

BTW, people who said Americans are idiots... are americans ;) Don't yell at the Brits.

Our troup arrived in Afghanistan with forest green camouflage suits... so I'm quite happy to see we weren't the only idiots out there ;)

What do you want, military is not every country's priority... in fact in Canada we had to raise our budget only because we're next to you... :skeptic:

With the amount of time the news said that Dick Cheney was moved to a safe place in 2001-2002.. is there really an american that isn't aware of his name? :skeptic:

I blame the US news, too many local news, not enough international news, that might be the problem.

Wow, talk about stupid Americans ... I thought if I took two or three years off the America bashing would have blown over and I could come back.

:banghead:

I'm just gonna wait until the EU's constitution is ratified so I can bash all of Europe at once. Saves time, you know.

This thread was probably meant for BCD, right Jeff? When I saw the title and the author, I thought it was another "brilliant" marketing ploy by Target for the order, much like the campaign they rolled out for Get Ready. Gotta make this thread NO-related somehow.;)

They wore red coats to be noticed, during those times warfare was different. yea its stupid for them to wear red coats but hindsight is 20/20. they have never thought the revolutionists/insurgents would fight in the manner that the native americans did. they expected them to fight with honor, toe to toe, or whatever. I think that was the birth of guerilla warfare. Think about it, the civil war... the northern union troops, they wore blue while the south wore gray and some camuflage. wierd isnt it? you would think they would know better, but again, warfare was different back then, they wanted/wished to fight face to face, with honor, or what ever.

Comparing the Americans and the Brits in the 18th century is comparing apples and oranges. And maybe bananas.

First, many, perhaps even most, of the "Brits" were really Germans, i.e. Hessians (Germans from Hesse) commanded by British officers.

Second, the "Americans" (British colonists) didn't invent camouflage, they learned to use camouflage by copying the Native Americans during the previous century and a half of warfare. So maybe they were smart enough to adapt or die.

Third, European military tradition was based in medieval traditions of chivalry, while American military tactics were based in the guerilla warfare practiced by Native Americans. Thus, the Brits wore redcoats because gentlemen fought in the open, not hiding behind rocks and trees. In the European theatre, that was not a tactical error, because their opponents fought by the same rules.

there are a ton of really stupid Americans, i agree with this wholeheartedly, but i hope that all of you over in England dont think that everyone in this country is dumb, because there are some very intelligent people here, just many morons give America a bad name, so i dont blame you.

After moving to a less... shall we say "enlightened" part of the country, stupid is one of the nicest things I have said about my fellow countrymen in this part of the US.

I agree with the general statement, but there are so many reasons, I won't even start listing them.

I don't think Americans have a monopoly on stupdity, but to quote "Animal House" and Dean Wormer -

"Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son."

Change son to America and add lazy, and you have americans in a nutshell.

How about the SBS? They're clever enough to keep themselves out of the tabloids, don't write tell-all novels, etc. Now THAT's the mark of an elite military unit :)

And just for the record, the reason that the 'stupid Brits' wore red was a matter of pride - it was considered cowardly to camouflage oneself (or hide from the enemy - even if it was SENSIBLE!) and the red was so that the blood didn't show up when you got shot/stabbed/etc.

And to bring this onto a New Order topic - does anyone think that Stephen might own a bright red tank? I'll get my coat...

I still think Steve should have a tank race with Richard D. James since they both collect them.

New Order vs. Aphex Twin old school vs. new school

It'll be a war on the shore!

I have 2 stupid american stories.

First: Someone in California asked me what Ocean I had to cross to get from Canada to America.

Second: I had someone show me a Canadian "Loonie" (a one dollar coin, same as a one dollar bill) And he started to explain to me, that this is what Canadians use for a one dollar bill and they call it a loonie. The funny thing is he did this after I told him I'm from Canada? Like what, he didn't think I new my own money?

Is this new order related???

Well to relate to new order Peter thought Vancouver was part of America. (I'm sure it was a slip of the mouth)

Oh My.

I lived in England for awhile and can say with a fair amount of confidence that the Brits aren't about to win any world IQ contests either.... And they would be the first to admit it, haha ;)

Blah blah blah blah blah. Dude, you've got several points above that are either wrong or partially correct. I won't even get into it.

The important thing is that we kicked the shit out of them. Not once, but twice. We are prepared to do it a third time if they don't put a stop to this Charles and Camilla madness. Now that whole business is REAL stupidity....

Jesus.

I can understand the Brits taking pot shots at us. I mean, they lost the friggin EMPIRE for God's sake. "The Sun Never Sets on The British Empire..." and all that jazz. Man. We lost Vietnam war and it took us ages to get over that. Imagine losing a whole damn Empire. That's gotta suck. Add to that the fact that the only thing the Brits have invented in the past 100 years that's worth a damn is the Land Rover, and you have yourself some issues.

And you Canadians? Given that you've got the world's largest inferiority complex it's not surprising that you take your digs at we Yanks. I can never quite figure out what the Canadians are pissed off about more: the fact that they didn't have the balls to send the Brits packing a lot sooner than they did, or the fact that they sent them packing at all? Tough.

What I can't stand is seeing my fellow Americans agree with the Brits. Now THAT is just stupid. Sure we have our fair share of idiots here, but I'll be damned if I'm going to sit back and let a bunch of Island Monkeys call us Stoopid.

"#3: In 1997 Bob Craft, then 39, of Hot Springs, Montana, changed his name to Jack Ass. Now, he says that MTV's TV show and movie "Jackass" was "plagiarized" from him, infringes his trademarks and copyrights, and that this has demeaned, denigrated and damaged his public image. No attorney would take the case, so he has filed suit on his own against MTV's corporate parent, demanding $50 million in damages. If nothing else, Jack Ass has proved he chose his name well."

*Would you really want an indipendent Quebec? I don't know, Canada seems like a cool place. It's alot more quiet than America, isn't it? I'd be a lot happier to live there than in the USA, and I'd be proud of that, whether I speak French or English... I can't understand how it really matters in the 21st century when we're all part, with our differences, of the same western culture. I mean, I don't think being a French or English Canadian makes a difference as big as being an Indian or a Pakistan, but then I may admit it's just my ignorance speaking here... :confused2:

The British burned down the White House - that was just plain mean. You wouldn't expect that from a country famous for its manners. Pardon me your honor whilst I burn your house down.

Then to add farce to tragedy, some Canadian comedy group (no, not the Parliament - excusez moi, au Parlement du Canada - or Kids in the Hall, but some Dead Troll kinda thing) made up a song making fun of this despicable act. Lyrics posted below for your amusement, enlightenment, shame, anger or other emotional reaction:

"Oh, come back, proud Canadians To before you had TV, No hockey night in Canada, There was no CBC (Oh, my God!). In 1812, Madison was mad, He was the president, you know Well, he thought he’d tell the British where they ought to go He thought he’d invade Canada, He thought that he was tough Instead we went to Washington.... And burned down all his stuff!

And the White House burned, burned, burned, And we’re the one’s that did it! It burned, burned, burned, While the president ran and cried. It burned, burned, burned, And things were very historical. And the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies Waa waa waah! In the War of 1812!

Now some hillbillies from Kentucky, Dressed in green and red, Left home to fight in Canada, But they returned home dead It’s the only war the Yankees lost, except for Vietnam And also the Alamo... and the Bay of... ham. The loser was America, The winner was ourselves, So join right in and gloat about the War of 1812

And the White House burned, burned, burned, And we’re the one’s that did it! It burned, burned, burned, While the president ran and cried. It burned, burned, burned, And things were very historical. And the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies Waa waa waah! In the War of 1812!

In 1812, we were just sittin’ around, Mindin’ our own business, puttin’ crops into the ground. We heard the soldiers coming and we didn’t like that sound. So we took a boat to Washington and burned it to the ground.

Oh... we... fired our guns, but the Yankees kept-a coming, There wasn’t quite as many as there was a while ago. We fired once more and the Yankees started running, Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico, oh, oh.... They ran through the snow and they ran through the forest, They ran through the bushes where the beavers wouldn’t go. They ran so fast, they forgot to take their culture, Back to America, and Gulf and Texaco

So, if you go to Washington, its buildings clean and nice, Bring a pack of matches, and we’ll burn the White House twice!

And the White House burned, burned, burned, But the Americans won’t admit it It burned, burned, burned, It burned and burned and burned It burned, burned, burned, Now, I bet that made them mad And the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies Waa waa waah! In the War of 1812!"

The Canadians seem so peaceful, but it seems inside they are very spiteful.

BTW - would Cockney be considered a foreign language? Is any language spoken by a foreigner a foreign language? Does anyone understand Lou Gramm?
