Hi there! Just thought I'd start a thread for people from New Jersey who like Ozzy. I mean, all of us like other bands as well as New Order, don't we?

Just to make it perfectly clear, in case there might have been any doubt, I'm not from New Jersey and I don't like Ozzy. But you already knew that didn't you?

I don't mean to suggest that there's anything wrong with either being from New Jersey or liking Ozzy.

In fact I've been IN New Jersey, but never FROM there, but that probably doesn't count.

While I consider affection for Ozzy and appreciation for New Order as being mutually exclusive qualities, I can quite easily imagine someone, particularly someone from New Jersey, liking both and would be happy to welcome them onto the forum personally.

Which preference would logically come first, I wonder? Would it be the liking of Ozzy that would lead one to study French, or would it be the other way around? And would it be the liking of Ozzy that would cause one to move to New Jersey, or is there something about the nature of life in New Jersey that would result in a higher proportion of Ozzy liking than may exist in other locations?

If I liked Ozzy too, I'd be in Shetland by now! If we could find the magnitude of the force one would experience as an OZZY fan, we may be able to triangulate and pinpoint exactly where such a person would have been born, and therefore derive an approximate age.

I hesitate to raise such a meaty issue when I'm about to sign off for the day, but it is not immediately obvious (to an American, at least) what it might have been about New Order that would have caused you to move North.

Is it the dark, cold, chilly aspects of their work?

Since I am, I confess, not perhaps as familiar with Ozzy's work as every educated person certainly should be, I have even greater difficulty evaluating the likely geographical direction in which a liking for Ozzy might propel one. Assuming we are in fact talking about the same Ozzy, it is not unimaginable that such a taste might push one toward California.

I'm from New Jersey-born and raised- While, I am not a particular fan of Ozzy's solo work, I do enjoy some early Black Sabbath-

And, actually New Jersey is famous for tomatoes, not potatoes, though I am sure we do grow them in South Jersey! Farm Fresh-as we say here!

And you ask -what would drive a person from Jersey to like Ozzy- it might be good music to listen to while stuck in traffic- Up in North Jersey-where I live it can take up to 45 minutes to go 10 miles during rush hour!

It is interesting that you associate Ozzy with New Jersey- I've always associated certain towns of Jersey with Ozzy-such as Sayreville in particular and points south , especially towards "the shore"

Though I do know some Northern New Jerseyans that are into Sabbath and Ozzy-

I live fairly close to Jersey but I'm no Ozzy fan. I like old Metallica and Smashing Pumpkins but that's about as heavy metal as I get.

This thread does seem to have attracted the brief attention of one person who actually does live in New Jersey.

The anonymous poster seemed to be inviting additional detailed inquiries about New Jersey and indicated a willingness to respond to such inquiries.

The person indicated that he/she was from North Jersey, the part of the state close to New York City, as opposed to South Jersey, which I believe is closer to Philadelphia. The only part of North Jersey that I have really visited is Newark.

Possible inquiries about where precisely in North Jersey the anonymous poster was located might elicit a response.

I note that you referred to the poster as a man. Is this something you know to be the case, or were you attempting to elicit either a veriification or a denial?

I didn't really know what to say. It was all so sudden and I was, as I think I alluded, a little drunk on wine.

By referring to the anonymous poster in the male gender, I was only following the traditional (although now rather unfashionable) convention that dictates that a person or collection of people of unknown or mixed gender is referred to using the male gender.

Having said that, the tone and presentation of the arguments put forward by our unnamed friend (and I hope he will not mind me referring to him as such) would probably tend to make me err towards male if forced to guess at the gender.

In short; while this is clearly not the person we are looking for, I feel sure we have made a valuable ally.

Actually, Jersey is known for its cattle; it is not at all known for its goats.

It seems that French is a common language in Jersey; however, it is unknown if Ozzy and New Order are commonly popular in Jersey. Perhaps one could find a Francophone Jersey fan of Ozzy and New Order here or here...

Yes, I am a huge New Order fan. I am seeing them for the first time at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC in May. I've been a fan for 20 years!

I don't know why I have associated Sayreville with Ozzy, maybe because Bon Jovi is from there. Now I know, most people who like Ozzy would not even think of uttering both names in the sentence- I just tend to associate heavy metal with South Jersey. Just go to Seaside Heights New Jersey boardwalk in the summer and you will see why.:)

It is also the richest state in the U.S. with the most dangerous city in U.S.-Camden which is also one of the poorest cities in the U.S.

As for weird odors-sometimes around 7:00 P.M. there is a scent of detergent in my town. Unless, everybody in my town does their laundry at that particular time, I have no idea where that smell comes from. Also if you drive over the Pulaski Skyway ( Jersey City, Harrison area)- you will experience an odor like no other. I was driving over it once and my friend was sleeping in the back seat and the smell woke her up- that is how bad it us.

I think the New Jersey tourist board-should issues scratch and sniff stickers of the various towns-

I was raised in Manchester, but now live in Aberdeen Scotland. I have never been to Houston.

I changed the location on my avatar thing in order to attract the attention of a member from Houston. I am hoping that the particular member will spot my location and signature quote while browsing the forum and feel moved to post on the forum for the first time.

So far, it's not worked, but I think I will give it another week before changing everything back to normal!

Thanks for the info about New Jersey. I know a little of the area as I am a fan of the Sopranos. Neither impression fills me with a desire to visit the place, although the view of the place from Lower Manhatten is something I would love to see again soon.

i live in new jersey which u all kno, well lets see, Bruce springsteen, whatshisname, uh some other nameless bands but, i hate new jersey, nothin to do in Newton or Andover, as long as i dont live in CLifton or Paterson i guess ill live for now, and i hate ozzy, i dont like that kind of music i rather listen to Dead or Alive repeatly for 4 hrs, and who else is from this AWSOME state, is it just me?

I'm from Philly and am glad I don't come from New Jersey - the state with the most dangerous city in the nation within its boarders.
