Pretty simple, really. As I am a huge comedy nerd, I thought we'd finally settle the question of which is funnier:
The Fish-Slapping Dance or the Smashing Watermelons Schtick
A horribly funny French accent or a horribly accurate Redneck one
Dr. Strangelove or Dr. Vinnie Bombots(sic)
"Spam, spam, spam!" or "Git R Done"
easy. the classic british humour you've mentioned still makes me laugh, while Gallagher and Foxworthy are rubbish.
however, put Dame Edna agains the Church Lady and you've got a fight.

There is some great American humor, to be sure (Conan, Carson, Andy Kaufman, John Belushi, etc), but very often the best American stuff gets lost in the popular mix of shit like "Blue Collar Comedy Tour" (otherwise known as "No Ni$$ers Allowed") or Urkel. So when I say "stupid American shit", I mean the stuff that's usually popular and not that good. 
Now, back to the voting...

Chappelle, Seinfeld, and Chris Rock are the only three funny American comedians. All that "Blue Collar TV", Larry the Cable Guy "GET R DONE!" "We Support Our President, God Bless the U.S.A....blah blah blah..." is absolute rubbish, the worst of the worst. Even with 12 Icehouses/Millers/Coors/Bud/Old Milwalkee in me, I still wouldn't even grin at the lot.
British humour has been and always will be ace.
Very few yanks do humour well,do they?
Steve Martin and Laurel and Hardy are Funny as Tits mindI suspect some of those guys were technically Brits tho
