Summer songs

Even though it's heading into winter in the southern hemisphere, I saw this article on the Guardian website re summer songs (including Peter Hook's choices), so here are mine: James - Sometimes One of the most uplifting acoustic guitar riffs in any song and it just makes me want to be outside in the sun. New Order - Your silent face They were playing this at the Big Day Out as the sun was setting and the moment was just perfect. Ash - Kung Fu Glastonbury 95 in the afternoon heat, crowd surfing, tripping. The Breeders - Cannonball Drinking beer at the beach, talking loudly, getting ready for some party that night. Roni Size - Railing Pt 2 Drum 'n bass on a warm night at an outdoor festival.

Hm, good topic, let me think about it here:

"Revolution", The Beatles - just seems "end of school" celebratory

"Roadrunner", Jonathan Richman - nothing says summer like being on the road, windows rolled down, radio blasting

"Transcendental Dreams", Yanni - I'm making this up, but I'm sure he has a song named something like that :D

"Sweet Jane", Velvet Underground - great rollicking tune

"Up on Cripple Creek", The Band - Good upbeat tune

"Police and Thieves", The Clash - something about it suggests "summertime music" to me.

That's all I got for now (though I'm sure I'll think of a few more sooner rather than later)

Sorry to be uncreative 'n' all, but the first one that occurred to me is Here Comes The Summer by The Undertones. Now that I've said that, Rockaway Beach by The Ramones.

Hmmmm...

Most of Technique is quite summery. And Regret has that quality as well.

Also, Sproston Green by the Charlatans, and Imitation of Life by REM.

Having read the article now, i must say In the Morning by the Coral is a quality summer tune. And Beautiful Day by the Levellers.

And one of supposed 'sounds of the summer' the magic numbers. Absolute crap. Avoid.
