I belive they played with joy divison a few times.
They could be considered one of the first goth punk bands.

Well, I'm a Yank who's heard of them (and likes them a lot), though I must admit that I've only got the first album. Definitely out of step with what was going on back then, I seem to recall some bloody pictures of Alan and Martin after their minimilist music opening for The Clash in Europe at the heighth of punk didn't fare too well.

I have a CBGBs compilation with a Suicide song on it. It's a bit freaky for my tastes, but a good harbinger of things to come (like Radiohead ala "Kid A", which it reminds me of). Can't remember the name, though
