I know what Agentwood's getting at, if it had been someone like John Dean or one of the more noteworthy Nixon aides who went down with their boss (no pun intended) it would have been more attention-grabbing.

I was partial to Pat Buchanan being the source, just because you wouldn't have thought of him as "ratting out" Nixon

I think it's BS. The real deepthroat is Ben Stein (of "Win Ben Stein's Money", and Ferris Bueller's Day Off fame). He was a speechwriter and lawyer for Nixon, and a childhood friend of Carl Bernstein. He also wrote a column for The Washington Post.

The only problem with that is Bernstein said he never met with "Deep Throat" (or if he did, not as much as Woodward), so Stein can't be it. Plus, I doubt a speechwriter would know enough to take down the Prez (my previous quote that P. Buchanan was DP nonwithstanding) :D

As for Mr. Pat being head of the SA, Twist, I'm shocked and offended by your assertation...all Nixon scholars know he was head of the SS. G. Gordon Liddy was head of the Brownshirts
