New station in town. Just like an Ipod on shuffle, never the same song in one day. So last night as I was driving home a little Depish action followed by Hotrod Lincoln. Yes, I cranked it for Personal HeyZeus.

What did it feel like?

I never really minded that song until I heard it on a comercial for the Medium. After that, I always fastforward through it on Violator.

If their next album is as crap as Exciter, I'm ripping my leather shorts and throwing away my black nail polish. See if I don't.

I used to be a member of the Exciter sucks club until I heard it recently (being in a DM phase) and realised it's not that bad actually, especially if you don't expect Enjoy the silence or Walking in my shoes to pop out all of a sudden.

Played Exciter once. I do not think I made it through it. I do not think I have played any DM in about 14 years. But if a decent tune is on the radio I will turn it up. Too bad it is always the same two, People are Freaks and Personal Mohhamid.

Depeche Mode was an awesome band, from "Construction Time Again" to "Violator." But they are a conundrum - how can a band make such good albums as these produce such crap - "Speak and Spell," "A Broken Frame," and everything after Violator. There were a few alright singles from those - "See You" and "It's No Good." I kind of think Alan Wilder was responsible for their sound - or improvement or apex before falling down.

By the way - keep the leather shorts and black nail polish. Clubs rarely play any post-Violator Depeche Mode.

No, it all started going wrong after songs of faith and devotion. Cracking Live though, by all accounts.

i saw them on the violator tour back in 1990; they were quite good. most of the action was on the video screens, and with dave gahan shakin' his thing up front while the others plonked away at the back. still, the music sounded great.

dave gahan? he looked ok at the show. remember, he was part of the entertainment along with the video screens. this was the era of his 'proto-goth cowboy' image and he was certainly taking advantage of it. it was the others who stood around like zombies!

Dave didn't start looking messed up on drugs until the Devotional tour. I haven't seen them live, but comparing 101 to the Devotional concert video, Dave looks much healthier in 1988. In 1993 (or whenever that was recorded), he looks too thin, he's sweating too much, and he just looks dragged out. Plus, I think of think it affected his singing on that tour. Alan Wilder also looks extremely bored in that video.

The rockier they tried to get, the more they sucked - they never managed to replace Alan Wilder's soundscapes. I sincerely hope the new album is more electronically based - Martin Gore's Counterfeit 2 had some cracking electronic arrangements - if Dave has too much say in the new one it's going to be rock central.

Yes, currently in New York for 2nd recording session on new album, tentatively slated for Autumn release.

"A Broken Frame" being bad? I think it's ages better than "Speak and Spell". While not as dense and captivating as "CTA" to "SOFAD", you can tell Martin Gore was the glue that held DM together by a string after Vince left and before Alan signed on.

I'll take "Leave in Silence", "My Secret Garden", "Nothing to Fear" and "The Sun and the Rainfall" anyday over "Boys Say Go", "No Disco", and "Big Muff"

No Spike, they are not makein a new album. They are making an album.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but why is it seen as cool to hate Depeche on here? I like them just as much as I like NO.

I still love Speak and spell and A broken frame. They are on my turnable often. Still.

Maybe I should get them on CD?
