Interpol : I hate them!

I have to get this off my chest. My pal keeps naggin me about Interpol. I cant stand them, I hate them, I cant bear to listen to it. I think it is a sheer insult to Ian. It actually upsets me. I physically cant listen to it. Disgusting.

I couldnt agree with you more about interpol

Haven't heard their new album but I dug their previous efforts.

Fun fact: I interviewed them in..uh...early 2001 after their first ep came out and I asked them about their obvious JD influence and the lead singer said, and I quote "I've never heard Joy Division before."

The next night their bass player was dj'ing at Lit and played 3 JD songs.

The first time I heard Interpol I thought 'wow, this sounds just like Joy Division, only with modern production values'. Which is cool, there's nothing wrong with that.

BUT, the fact that they pretend they don't even know who they are really pissed me off. Then when the press called them on their obvious similarities to JD, they pulled this 'we're so misunderstood' bullshit.

So fuck 'em.

I have both albums and the EP. The first album is better that the new one.

Saw them in Stockholm 2.5 half years ago. Support band was British Sea Power. They were ace ;)

Give them some time, and you will like them too. I like them, but I don't "love" them.

People either like them or hate them. Live they are great IMHO.

I used to hate them as Joy Division rip-offs, but now I like them a lot. Once I started listening without thinking of Joy Division (and they really don't sound much like JD), then I was alright.

Just did the same with The Killers yesterday. They don't sound like New Order to me, more like The Cure.

But both bands are a bunch of twattish fashionistas. I'd kick them in the balls in person, but they do make good music.

Thank God somebody else also hates them. I can't stand one season bands, especially rip offs of my favourite bands...

I'm a big fan of this band, i read an interview with Interpol where the singer said, and i quote "If people get into Joy Division through us that's not necessarily a bad thing". I think the singer lied about not knowing who JD are because the only thing people say about them is "they sound like JD" which is ridiculous. I can't see any similarities myself.

I do like Interpol, but I don't love them and I can't listen to them all the time, sometimes it gets on my nerves...

However, I really don't like The Killers, it's not the NO rip-off thing what I don't like about them. They've got some catchy singles, but the album is crap and even the singles get boring after a while.

It's not just you. I think many people prefer them to bands like Interpol. What both bands and many other bands (The Bravery, Junior Boys, Zoot Woman, The Stills...) have in common is that they are ripping off their music from bands like NO, The Cure, The Smiths etc. Some of them do it in quite a good and interesting way, others just plagiarise (or take on loan:D )

FWIW, I would *prefer* Interpol to Killers... but that doesn't change the fact that I find them both awful... The same goes for FF, and the rest from that trend...

I hate them, too. Boring music and I can't stand the way they dress. That alone makes it hard for me to like them. I'm pretty shallow, aren't I?
