i was there, and so were facseven (al h.) and his girlfriend. i got there just before the beat came on, so i didn't see them until after the show when we went and got a bite to eat. sorry to have missed you!

Doesn't Dave whats-his-face tour all the time, singing all the old Beat hits? I see he comes to Seattle every year, just not with the rest of the band.

wakeling. he was the only original member in the line-up, but he was in good spirits and sounded on top form.

What? No Ranking Roger either? I love Dave W.'s voice, but without Roger, I dunno if I'd wanna see The Beat.

no roger. i was hoping he'd be there as well, but when i saw the ticket with 'english beat featuring dave wakeling' on it, i knew it was not to be. however, i was surprised at how good they sounded without him. and no horn section, either. i'd have thought that impossible!

yah they probably didnt do "too nice to talk to" or "end of the party" because those songs had alot of saxophone, and they didnt have one at the show =\

but the general public songs were flawless, i cant believe he whistled at the end of "never you done that" =D

I'm seeing General Public at Bumbershoot in September (opening for Devo!), so you think they'll play any Beat songs also?

Dave Wakeling?!

So there's two Beats then?! I've seen the Beat a couple of times this past year (saw them at Glasters with JG and pompeyorder 3 weeks ago) and they're fronted by Rankin' Roger and his son. They're even writing new material as 'the Beat' and have drafted in Lynval Golding on some songs.

Perhaps Dave Wakeling got the rights to the name 'the English Beat' and Roger got 'the Beat'?!

I'd always assumed Wakeling weren't interested anymore, hence only Roger fronting them now.

Strange.

perhaps rog and dave divided the world into spheres of influence, one for 'the beat' and one for 'the english beat'?

as for this general public show the pope's on about: perhaps there will be a one-day detente for a reunion?
