ok, who got their harry potter today? admit it....

i did. i'm on page 105 and taking a break.:D

I'm not one who did, though I did stop in at the local Borders yesterday afternoon around 4 (bought FourFourTwo and the Go Betweens new one). Found myself fighting for space amongst a group of fans (mostly female BTW) waiting in line to get a ticket so that they could claim a spot in line later that night to purchase said book. Some of the staff looked a bit harrassed by it all, much, I suppose, like all of the US Mail, FedEx, UPS, etc. delivery people did today.

I'll get the german version from my austrian pen pal (he's a bookshop employee)... Are there really two versions? One for children and one for adults?

I don't buy into this current literary trend. Maybe it's because I'm in my mid-twenties, but I don't see the appeal of a kid wizard. If he used his powers for good (like invisability at a girl's showers) the story might be different, but I just don't see the appeal.

It's almost as bad as those guys who dress up like Obi Wan or Boba Fett while waiting in line for the SW movies....

I do love the fact that HP seems to piss off the religious Right, though

Frankly, I'm shocked I know that much about HP to know character names and such.

Here here Tho I have not the slightest interest in Harry Potter related crac...We must defend the rights of those that do And kids reading books is to be encouraged

AgentWood is busy. She will only grace us with her presence again when she's finished her Harry Pothead which should be anytime in the next 10 hours.

finished it last night. it took me just over 24 hours (with sleep and some breaks, of course) to read the 650 pages--it's a fairly fast read, and for those who haven't read harry potter: you don't know what you're missing!

i wasn't interested in the books and couldn't understand what the big deal was until i decided i'd bite the bullet and buy the first three. i started the first one and couldn't put them down until i'd read through all three with practically no sleep or food. this was back in 2000 and now i eagerly await the release of each new book. they're fantastic stories and deserve all the attention they get!

Got an English copy from the local supermarket on Saturday morning, but I still haven't had a sniff at it yet, because Deek's gone off with it. Haven't seen him for days now, it's been nice and quiet

Unfortunately, although my kids speak English, they're not able to read such a book yet so I'm having to buy the Dutch copy as well when it is published, whenever that may be.

My daughter Amanda have read all HP books, and so has her mother. I haven't though.

Amanda is waiting for the new one in swedish.

Our household has all the previous ones. I wait until the movies dome out on dvd. Currently reading Follet's latest paperback and considering reading Stone's Damascus Gates again.

i read the hobbit when i was 6 or 7, then didn't pick up another tolkien book until grad school. same as harry potter--i couldn't put it down until i had finished the series.

That shows that you didn't read any of them... 3-5 are not very "childish"...

I read LOTR after I saw the first movie... It wasn't as hard to read as I thought...

I didn't actually want to start with reading HP ever in my life (I'm that kind of person that doesn't on principle want to do what everybody does (with exceptions ;) )). I bought the second book as a birthday present for friend of mine. Standing in the book-shop I thought: "OK... Now let's buy the first one and look what it is that makes everybody freak out..." That was it... I had to buy another copy for my friend because I read it before I handed it over...
