Is this book any good? The name of the author (Simon Reynolds) seems familiar and the reviews on Amazon seem to be all very positive. Does anyone here recommend it?

Pity about the cover though, it looks like shit. Hopefully the book is better 
I started reading it, and yes it is good. Since it is a collection of essays, it is one of those books that you don't have to read in any order. So far I have read the essays on the Glasgow scene and the Sheffield scene. Well written- I recommend it for fans of post punk.
Couldn't find it on Amazon, though (must be an English release for now).

I'd say it's likely there'll be a US release on this book, I'm also sure that it's probably in stock at any decent bookstore (i.e. Powell's) at the moment.
Whaddaya know, it is.....at thirty dollars too. I guess one can either go for the import, or wait to see if it gets released here. As for me, think I'll go with the import on this one.
I just ordered this book (together with True Faith: An Armchair Guide to New Order, blah, blah, blah) from Amazon.co.uk. Can't wait to read it.
It's an excellent read, well worth getting. Joy Division are mentioned in context with Factory and the Manchester scene (Buzzcocks, The Fall etc) and New Order crop up in a section called The Manhattan/Manchester connection. I wouldn't be surprised if it is published in the US as it covers the scene in both continents and the author Simon Reynolds is now a New York resident. His first book was about the rave scene and was called Energy Flash in the UK and Generation Ecstasy in the US.
