Are the Pet shop boys shite if you aint gay?

i'm not gay...but i'm also a girl. so i probably don't count.
i guess you haven't seen the picture of nic and sebastien in their PSB t-shirts after the concert when they were about 19. look on the "let's post pictures of ourselves" (or whatever it's called) thread. 
I remember liking "West End Girls" when it came out back in the day...of course, I can remember Rick Astley and Wham!, so that's not saying much for my supposed masculinity 
My cousin is a big fan, and I don't think he's gay..though there was that one time...nevermind.

I listened to Pet Shop Boys for 7 years and didn't know they were "gay". When I was told they were, I didn't believe it for a long time until I gradually started to see some hints in their songs. But Chris Low ain't gay. Or is he? What does that matter? I never considered them gay and if I know now that Neil Tennant is, so what? What does it have to do with music? 
I like Pet Shop Boys. They're still capable of making great pop songs. I'd go further. To me the only profilic rivals of Pet Shop Boys would be... the Beatles. I don't know many bands who would produce fantastic songs and popular hits throughout a 20-year career with such a constancy, without hiatuses, getting trapped in bollock periods etc. 
They never struggled to find a new sound and that's saved them. 
I've considered them the Mozart of 1985-2005.
I'm just getting into Pet Shop Boys, via Electronic. Just got the 2001 reissue of Please, which is genuinely fantastic (get hold of Violence this minute!) and I'm looking forward to Actually, too.
Being straight, I actually find some of their songs vaguely subversive, eg, Later Tonight and Rent, but it doesn't put me off at all; it's quite appealing.
Many classics.

You don't have to be gay to appreciate PSB. I'm not gay but I own nearly every LP they've released - they have an excellent back catalogue.
Of course, homophobes will take an instant dislike to them.

Sound just like me at first! I've listened to PSB for years before finding out that they were considered a gay band. Same with other groups i listened to at the time, like erasure and other gay disco groups. Back before the internet, you really didn't know what the artist looked like, or really knew anything about them. You see an occasional photo in the sleeve, but the photos never came off looking gay. I just knew I enjoyed the sound, and I didn't care who sang it. I also never really paid attention to lyrics back then, so i didn't know what they were singing about half the time.

Yeah, I did know they were gay until I read the review the next morning in the paper of the show I saw (the shirt... yeah that shirt AgentWood, if that helps you, check this picture to boost Sebastien & I's egoes at least), and I must say I stopped wearing it at school... well, I was single and wanted to meet women ;)
Sexual orientation doesn't matter in anything. I'm a straight girl and I love New Order, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys and Electronic. Why should anyone care if one or two of the Pet Shop Boys are gay?

Being a PSB fan is not sexuality specific and if you think in such black and white terms then that's your loss. I'm a PSB fan who happens not to be gay and I think they're a quality duo that have done alot of fantastic electronic music ('Release' was a bit patchy though). Boiling down music to such mundane assumptions that you're only allowed to like a band's output if their sexuality fits is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while and I'm sure most NOOLers would agree. I mean, it's like something from the playground when you're ten

I saw the Pets when I was 15 at Birmingham NEC,I got a free ticket,they were pretty good back then in 1990 though I don't like em much these days..I also have "Its a sin"on 12" vynil good song even now I'm mildly sorry for any offence taken by the cracless contingent here tho:\ohwell:

After detailed analysis and introspection I have come to the following conclusion: The PSB are shite if you think they are shite.
Well, I've never liked what I heard from the Pet Shop Boys. then again I've never heard much, but I've also never really like the vocals either. Can anyone recommend a top song by them? Maybe I'm missing out. Although, I don't like Depeche mode much or Erasure.
Does It matter? Tho I always knew something was up with them-the gay part I did not grasp til I was in my 20s (I am 33 now)

I'm not gay but,even if some of their songs sound pretty gay to me (Rent, NYC Boy, Single), I enjoy 50% of their stuff. I still think Behavior is one of the best album ever.
I am a fan of this band and must admit i don't give a DAM about them being GAY or NOT.Great music and i have MUCH more to worry about than this.I wonder sometimes if my MILKMAN ERNIE is GAY.And if my plumber is round the bend(ER)?
