im beginning to feel good about mets. Their pitching has been stellar ,Jose Reyes and David Wright are getting better.Next Year, i think they will be a team to beat.

My team, the Orioles are in the same predicament as the Nats and that is- fading away into the darken nights.

They tried to trade Sidney Ponson for Phil Nevin but I guess Nevin didn't want to go and he's got a trade clause in his contract that says he can reject any trade. I think Bosox will win the division and the yanks will nab the wildcard, there's too much talent on both squads for them not to make the postseason. At any rate, I'm still rooting for the O's!

Was that you Kamar who'd made the prediction that the Nats would fade, and that the wild card would come from the Central? If so, things are looking better for that to happen as of late.

Jonathan, I do believe that the Mets slogan this year is "Next year is NOW!" With their agonizing inconsistency, like in Pedro's loss last night, it'll probably be "Next year is NOW..... again.

Sammy, how do the O's fans feel about Sosa? Not a ton of production from him despite the salary. Saw Ponson pitch in Seattle a couple of weeks ago, it was a very good outing for him, till the sixth inning when the defense failed him and then the Mariners basically hit everything just out of reach. Saw that he got hit the hand last night, tough break for him. I do think the Yanks will win the East, with Baltimore second; the breaks went the Sox way last year, I don't think it'll happen again.

I think I made the call on the Nats, Green (and shocker of shockers, I was spot-on! ). It seemed to me like they were a first-half fluke, no team can sustain that sort of momentum over the course of an entire season. There will be downs and valleys, and that's what determines whether they have any character or not. If the Nats manage to make a decent showing towards the final stretch, they could make an impression for next year at the least. Anything to challenge the Braves' stranglehold on the division.

The whole issue of Manny wanting a trade from Boston broke today, I think it's just another diversion for the BoSox to lead their opponents into a false sense of security. Schilling is starting to come into his own as a closer, but some nights he has it and sometimes he doesn't. I don't see a repeat this year, though I'd love to see them at least keep the Yanks from even appearing. This may seem cruel, but I want Steinbrenner to die a loser, and since 2000 he has been in the losing column of all the important games. The guy's getting on, certainly he can't hang around much longer, and the idea of getting a new stadium is sacrilage.

Gee, what the fuck happened to the Dodgers? In April, they were the big story; now they're on the backburner.

Same thing with the Giants. I'm not keeping up with the standings, but it seems like Barry Bonds is a deadweight on the team doing anything this year. The A's are making a run for the wildcard, though. I like their chances.

Their defense is definetly improving, and maybe they should get manny from boston. Even it means taking his salary. I can envision many sell outs if this happens. Manny is from nyc and would be fun to see him reunited with Pedro. I know he is a defensive liabilty but his offense will make up for it.

nic, mtyself, and taboo all said the nationals would fade. i did predict that houston who were in dead last would win the wild card and they have a one game lead right now. i'm surprised my cubbies are still in the race. hopefully with rhino and the trade deadline being tomorrow, some good luck will come from it and we get a left fielder, help in the bullpen, and a 5th starter :)

slumpin sammy is not missed at all in chicago :/ jeremy burnitz has played well and surprised ppl with his speed and defense. the only mention that sammy recieved on the news last night was that he struck out twice in 3 appearances.

ryne sandberg, for someone who was not comfortable with the media throughout his carear, he made up for it with his accpetance speech. higlights included him saying players today lack respect for the game, hitting homeruns is not an excuse to forget how to play the other aspects of the game, making andre dawson stand up and then saying he deserved to be in the hall, making reference to ron santo and the shit stick the veterans committee handed him, and a joke about the cubs never winning the world series.

Good for Ryno on Sunday, well deserved indeed. Good news, of sorts, for yours truly; once again, Comcast is offering a free month of MLBTV.com to its subscribers, a good way to catch a lot of games that I wouldn't usually have a chance to see. Of course, the offer expires at the end of August, when the pennant races will really start to heat up, and then they can get more people to pay for the service. Nice idea, but I'm gonna stick to the one free month, and follow the other games as I usually do, via the internet and ESPN.

A lot of times, the only games I get through ESPN are ones that I don't care about (Marlins-Pirates, anyone?), but I do have WGN for any Cubs fix I might need (as in "need the fix of watching them lose" ) or TBS for the Braves (who broke my heart one too many times during their pennant runs in the early Nineties, but are always a good game to watch). Usually I'm content to catch the highlights on "Sportscenter" or "Baseball Tonight", then come here and pretend that I'm an expert on the sport

Finished "Ball Four" recently, it really makes the point that however high ballplayer's salaries are today, there's something to be said for it due to the slave wages they got in the past.

Well, he's been a bust. Sosa just never got going this year and I'm not sure if has anything left in his tank. He's gotten progressively worse the last 3 or 4 yrs or so and in fact, when the O's were courting Sosa and Delgado in the offseason they actually wanted Delgado instead but as we know he signed with the Marlins. I think what's been the demise for the O's is their starting pitching who has "hit the wall" and I think we O's fans were kind of holding our breath hoping these guys could continue as well as they had pitched in the first half. (Lopez, Chen, etc..)

And the walls come tumbling down for Raffy w/ his steriods bust. Sadly, this is going to paint a poor portrait of a tremendous baseball player who is in his twilight of his career and probably hang it up after this season since he's gotten his 3000 hit.

Just gotta add that Kenny Rogers has really moved closer to the front of the "most despised" list, though I doubt he'll catch up to Terrell Owens. Reduce your suspension?

I think Rogers is in the same league as Clemens...in being a major-league asshole. Much like Clemens tossing that bat at Piazza in '00, Rogers pulls a "do you know who I am?" and harasses a cameraman, then gets away with it. And the arbiter reducing his sentence is bad news what with steroids and all taking the headlines away from what's on the field
