So - how do you measure up to that?

if we didn't have a microwave when i was growing up i would have starved to death. my parents couldn't, wouldn't and didn't cook.
when microwaves came out i learned there was more to gastronomy than going out to eat and cereal.

actually i can make starter/il primo-tuna,white beans and salad main course/il secondo-fillet steak flamed in brandy with a cream and mushroom sauce dessert/il dolce-strawberry breasts with cherry nipples
When my ex visited, I made her home-made ravioli. I made the pasta, rolled it out, made the the filling, cut out the ravioli, and made a tomato-basil sauce from scratch. It was INCREDIBLY good.
She was impressed, but I'M STILL SINGLE. Not enough money in the ol' bank account. She would have been more impressed with El Jefe's approach, I guess. 
Of course, the ex after her apparently couldn't be arsed to care even when I was spending $400 for dinner out.

actual real preparing of food in the United States is getting pretty rare, people just buy prepared food or fast food, or quicky simple packaged food... I can't understand or respect why any woman would continue to mindlessly feed men in this day and age when almost all skill and labor has been taken out of cooking
I find it hard to believe that contemporary women prepare food for men. I have yet to date a woman who knows where the kitchen is, let alone how to actually use it. Not that it's "women's work," mind, but women seem to take a perverse pride in NOT knowing how to cook. I've been "the cook" in every relationship. That, or the one who buys dinner out.

Same here. I'm the cooker in our family. Sara knows how to use the microwave, and how to heat up froozen food. I do the cooking. Home made lasagna etc.

My mother still likes to cook, although she doesn't cook for my father. He usually comes home from work at 11pm, so she tells him to make something for himself. Then again, this past year I lived with a roommate who loved to cook, but only for himself.
Ooooh! I love to cook. I love to feed people. Oh I could go on and on (and on and on, really) about my fantasy menus and table settings, and menus and tables of parties I've had. I love nothing more than to hold dinner parties, big and small. Food, and the sharing of it, is such a joy to me. I am happiest when I am having people over to food. I love all the prep and I love how happy people get when they eat good things. And I love love love table conversations enhanced by wine.
My poor best friend from childhood can't cook and grew up in a household that didn't. Now she habitually eats microwaved frozen chicken nuggets or boiled rice with salt and pepper for dinner. This is what she feeds her children. I always pack her lots of gladware full of goodies when she comes over but she has no interest in learning to cook.

I think food is more a cultural thing than anything…
for example, in France (we've got a reputation to hold, yes ?) you can't even imagine how much people doesn't really cook (I didn't say men or women) !
For me, because I just don't eat meat for a long time, I'm cookying a lot because I just care about what I'm eating and I enjoy it so much when people tell me that it is tasty !!! I'm so proud… 
In my way of seeing life, the more I care about me and others is so important than food is taking an XL size !

i rarely cook due to the fact that my fella's tastes are a touch more sophisticated than shepherds pie and spag bol (not a fan of mince), so he does it all.
i do make rather fine baby food tho
