As I was saying over on the other forum, from Modern Life is Rubbish to the Anti War marches to Gorillaz latest album, everything Damon gets involved with is,in my opinion great.
Noel Gallagher seems like a funny bloke - but I dont think they have done anything worth much since Definitely Maybe? Their Record sleeves are also horrid.
I have to admit that Brit pop battle of 10 years ago sort of passed us by in Oz.
Only recently did I see that Live Forever doco on dvd (I still have to return it to its owner). Top doco btw. Live Forever covers that period quite well.
While I don't think the sun shines out of Liam and Noel's arses, they were better than Blur.
Haven't really liked anything they did since the Wonderwall album though.
this does take me back a few years...
i'm positive it is one of the main reasons for my break-up with my then boyfriend. i was REALLY into blur and he was all about oasis.
having said that, i like oasis (although i haven't purchased anything of theirs as of late) and the oasis show i went to in 1995 in NYC was one of the best i'd ever been to. but they'll never beat blur--leisure through their eponymous album, especially. those were the golden years. i was really passionate about blur during that time and was buying japanese imports, every single that came out, bootlegs, rare interview CDs (see the thread on expensive music you own), and so on.
i also had the worst crush on alex james imaginable. 
every time i saw them live i had to make sure i was positioned in the front, stage left, so could watch alex toss his floppy hair around. *sigh*
Oasis's 1st two albums were miles better than Blur's 1st two albums, but since then Blur have been miles ahead, so it's Blur for me...
Although I did get turned off Blur for a while when Damon said that he wished one of the Gallagher brothers would die of AIDS...
Oasis hands down, in spite of the Gallaghers. i´ve never could understand Blur´s music or what they tried to do. a couple of good songs and period. i don´t like the Gallaghers but i don´t like Albarn either and i´ve always found his voice annoying. IMO Oasis is a very powerful band, especially live. Blur always sounded "soft" to these ears. so i have no doubts about it, Oasis kicks Blur ass every time.
Damon Albarn is a talentless cunt. He has been involved in two good songs, which were theres no other way and universal. Gorillaz are so shit its untrue. And if you admire a 'musician' because he goes on a few anti war and poverty marches, then thats quite sad.
Oasis on the other hand, are fookin brilliant. Still kicking most bands arse live and creating good music. The last album, which is good, beats anything Blur ever did.
If I have to choose, it'll be Blur.
But, honestly, I don't listen to neither of them. Except for the songs I sometimes hear on my radio.

Add up all the great live performances, two nights at knebworth, maine road, earls court, wembley, 3 nights at the city of manchester stadium.
When have Blur done a memorable live performance that will be remembered?
I saw Blur do their singles tour in 1999, fucking great show it was too.
Have been into that pub The Good Mixer in Camden Town a couple of times, never did see Damon Albarn or Brett Anderson about though.
There you go, the first two suede albums were better than anything Blur ever did. And even a few songs after Bernard Butler left were great as well.
When did Blur create anything as dynamic as Animal Nitrate?
Couldn't really give a fuck I like Blur, Oasis & Suede. Was too young to go and see Seude with Brett & Bernard but managed to see The Tears earlier on in the year, not the same thing but it was rather good none the less.
dont really like both. Blur has some good tunes, and oasis hasnt had good song since their debut. They have been shite for awhile now.
blur are shite,borderline boyband at one point (admit it fer fucks sake). oasis are just utter shite,the gorillaghers are a a pair of whining twats at best,and i for one look forward to tossing a pound coin into their hats when thay are busking at a bus station when the british public finally wake up and give them their marching orders.

good show, i admit. but there were more man city jerseys there than there are man city fans in the whole of england! and those hats liam used to wear--every guy had one on; and i think it was jo whiley who said on stage: 'look at al those liam hats. don't think he's actually worn one of those in about a year!'
not to mention the weirdest queues for the toilets ever. 100 people queuing for about 15 port-a-loos when no one was using the other 50--so we just waltzed right in. an american and a yorkshireman, so perhaps we knew better. ;)

you're right. it was one of the gallaghers who said he hoped damon would catch AIDS and die, not the other way around.

let's see. they both had really cute lead singers, wore similar pastel skater wear and cyclist hats, and had catchy tunes. but i think jesus jones' album doubt was stronger--what with right here, right now (political statement, there), trust me, and international bright young thing leading the way.

oasis suck ( although will admit to liking wonderwall). blur ok. gorilaz great - do we all like shaun ryder's contribution to the new single?
Both are good, but I'm going with Oasis. Now with that said, I'm not too fond of their new stuff (Lyla) but their mid 90s choons were great.

Blur, even though I really have strain to sit through any of the overly-polished stuff they did after Parklife. Blur at least had a tongue-in-cheek quality to them that hinted that they really knew how dorky and twee a lot of the britpop sound was.
Parklife is alright but Modern Life is Rubbish is the highwater mark in my opinion.

Then (in 1995) Oasis, now, looking back Blur, also because im a bit of a mockney myself. Just been watching them (blur) on BBC4's great britpop nostalgia night which included a 10 year's younger Phil Cunnigham with Marion.
Never liked either, truth be. Oasis gets negative points for being a load of cokehead rockstar ego whores...buying their records only encourages them, people.
Damon Albarn, on the other hand, co-composed with Michael Nyman the score to "Ravenous," one of the most entertaining and underrated horror/comedy flicks in years. The score is one of my favorites for being totally mental, quite hilarious, and also rather creepy.
Oasis couldn't be bothered to write something as interesting as a film score if their worthless overrated lives depended on it.
Having watched the documentary for the first time in a few years last night, it made me realise why i despise albarn.
Why couldnt he just admit that he acted like a twat in thw whole oasis/blur 'war'? Then again, the use of the word 'acted' implies that he isnt just a twat full stop.

The only thing Albarn lacks is a MANC ACCENT. It seems this (and a reactionary take on the world) is enough to endear LIAM to your band

I assume you mean technically, and that may have been the case ten years ago, but since Coxon left blur, there was the best musician gone, and since Oasis got Starkey, Gem Archer and Andy Bell in, they've got some quality musicians there.

I have to agree on this count. I really, truly tried my hardest to like Think Tank but never succeeded. The entire attempt to integrate Eastern/Morroccan rhythms with ambient-y trip-hop and a folk twinge really only produces three worthwhile tracks: Brothers and Sisters, Ambulance, and Moroccan Peoples' Revolutionary Bowls Club, of which the latter two sound more like softcore 23 Skidoo songs than anything else.
I think my friend has the best analogy for what happened to Blur when Coxon left- it's identical to one used for when Bernard Butler ditched Suede or the Charlatans lost their organist: "Imagine if everyone left the Beatles except Ringo."
And why has another band who truly wiped the floor with Blue not been mentioned? The utterly fantastic Pulp. Different Class wiped the floor with everything in 95.

I can think of NO good OASIS gig - ever.
I can think of NO good tunes that OASIS have put together in their teiiiimmmmmmme.
And of course it matters how a band looks. What they wear, how they conduct themselves, etc. Presumibally you would have the same opinion of Joy Division if Ian Curtis had a big quiff and wore fake tan I take this to include Videos, and Album sleeves. Blur wipe the floor here. I can think of NO band with worse sleeves than OASIS.
Loved both of em, but Oasis always were ahead cos they were cool as fuck. They gave the best interviews ever and still do from time to time.
Definitely Maybe is still as good to me know as it was back in the day. I did go off them after What's The Story and constant pictures in the paper of Liam taking things too far in America (not going or gobbing on the stage - it all got to him a wee bit)
For the last couple of albums I've been impressed again, even with their shitey album period there were still songs on them albums capable of beating most other things about.

With Shame I say I have, both!
Saw them around 96 in an outdoor gig in Meath, and have Definitely Maybe. I put it down to a pre adolescent phase - and classify them with Garbage or whatever other shit I was listening to at the time. 
Question for Liam; do you have any non-Manc albums in your collection?
I like 'em both really but they're by no means favourite bands for me. Oasis were really exciting around '94-'96 but relaxed into autopilot after Morning Glory. Musically, they're boring now and not relevant unless you're pissed up in a pub with your mates. There were about four tunes on Be Here Now I liked and one or two on Heathen Chemistry and the new record, but they always choose the wrong singles, Lyla is same old and not an exciting track. To be honest when a new Oasis album comes out I normally just rediscover the first two albums plus the "Whatever" CD single for about a month and then they go back in the CD rack. It would take alot for Oasis to surprise me these days, I downloaded the new album in MP3 and I pretty much always buy the actual CD if I like the songs (honest!) but I didn't with "Don't Believe The Truth" (SHIT, pretentious title). I still have the MP3s but they've been unplayed for a while now.
Blur is a similarly mixed bag for me. I think Albarn is far more talented than Gallagher could ever hope to be, he tries different things musically which probably means I'm more inclined to give records he's involved in a listen. His lyrics are also far better written, and funnier than Gallagher's. I thought The Great Escape was fantastic, Parklife too. On the other hand "Think Tank" was bollocks from start to finish; sounded like they recorded it in Albarn's kitchen. Fine line between lo fi and a waste of sound y'know? Albarn is a bit of a hypocrite slagging Oasis's samey songs when he himself came out with "Crazy Beat", utter shit!
My prediction for the future is Blur will probably split for good (maybe 1 more album) and Oasis will become our generation's Rolling Stones. Oh and Noel will go bald

I did. I told you I did. I was half dragged along with my Sister who was a huge fan. We were both into them around the time of the first 2 albums - then realised they were shit. 
Saw them in Slane : around 96 ish I think. I have DM, and the sister has 2 more albums.
