"A civil court judge ruled Wednesday that the landmark punk club CBGB's can't be evicted from its Bowery location, saying it shouldn't be punished for not noticing it owed its landlord money."
glad to see it's not closing, but what a crap ruling! although i kind of like the precedent it sets.

I have really never took a close look at it, but cbgb's are claiming they did not owe this money. They claimed that the bowery committee falsified records in an attempt to evict them.
the bowery committe want to replace cbgb with a homeless shelter. Almoost makes cbgb seem bad, huh?

It quite change over the years. I think the only ones who go to shows their are tourist. The punks have moved out. Im more impressed by their art shows now.

the last time i was there was around 1991 when i was in high school, and it was as crappy as ever--people shooting up in the bathroom stalls (with no locks on the doors, of course), the floor of the bar area nice and sticky, and half the chairs broken or close to it. good times. i think the last band i saw there was shudder to think.
they still have hardcore shows now and again, but some of the gigs are 30 bucks to get in? for a cb's hardcore matinee? we used to pay 5.00, and thats when we payed at all,most of the time one of us would pay and the others would rub their hand against their stamp. and there is or was a homeless shelter for drug abusers above cb's, would the litte space that it occupies make much of a difference?

if it closes, the proper thing to do would be to open the doors and let the public trash the place and take whatever they want.
personally, i would rip some of the flyers off the wall and maybe take a bathroom door.
