1. Kenny Dalglish: Oozed strength, class and what perfect vision. Oh and his daughter's not bad looking either.

2. George Best. Took the piss out of everyone he played with or against. Was at the end when he was with Fulham but still worth the enterance fee.

3. John Barnes. Week in, week out at Anfield he tore sides apart. Pity he couldn't do it for England though.

From what I've seen.....(in NO order).

John Barnes (Watford, L'pool & England) - Was he ever really trying in the 80s' early 90's? (Yes he was sh*te for England).

Eric Cantona (Leeds and Man Utd) - Possibly the most talented footballer I'll ever see, someone will have their work cut out to be better. How did one man seem to have/create so much time?

Third tough one, Ian Rush (L'pool) - For his shear goal scoring ability. David Beckham (Man Utd & England) - Some of best touches/control/passing/finishing I've seen live. Will go with Franco Baresi (AC Milan) - Quality footballer, not much more to say than again how much time did this guy have/create on the ball.

You don't remember Ruud scoring the first goal, or Giggs the second, for which we were serenaded with the "Giggs will tear you apart again" song by Donovan afterward? Ole Gunnar Soskjaer scored as well, and Roy Keane with the hard tackle on a Celt early on, with Alan Thompson missing the penalty kick, on Roy Carroll no less. The Neville brothers and John O'Shea were there, and Rio Ferdinand was defending exceptionally well whenever Celtic threatened. Still a helluva day, result excluded of course.

What a guy, best memory is not of him playing. Went to the local derby at Huddersfield Town getting the best seats in their end and were laying it on thick to those around us. Baird and (I think) McCluskey were injured or more likely suspended and were behind us. They spent a bit of time before the match egging us on 'cause they couldn't dish it out.

PS I am reliably informed that John Charles was the greatest footballer ever almost winning the World Cup single handed for Wales. Sadly when I saw him he was about 50 and was wheeled on for the Leeds Greats charity team at a local football club.

I was at Mogga's Testimonial at Ayresome Park back in 91! Can't remember too much about it - me and ma cousin Steve were still recovering from an acid tab the night before. Happy days.

Mogga used to coach us when we were kids at Boro juniors...he used to make us play mad 36 aside matches on Redcar beach...I even nutmegged him once,he chased me and scythed me down for it Fantastic bloke tho,who came back well from the personal tradjedy of losing his beloved wife to cancer.You don't get many footballers as down to earth these days unfortunatly...Plus he is a Redcar Lad

I was lucky enough to see both play in person and it's not easy to put Troy in front of Captain America. Here's my reasoning. Both eras had about the same quality of player and coaching talent. You can go position by position and compare: Drew and Michael. Tony and Emmit. Roger and Troy. Tony Hill and Alvin Harper. The same can be done with the O and D lines. The same can be said about the coaching staff: Tom and Jimmy. Ernie Stautner and Hudson Hauk. Etc.

Two things push Troy over the top: 1) 3 Super Bowls to 2 Super Bowls. Now, Roger made it more, but Troy won every one he played in (and avenged all those losses to Pittsburgh ..."Terry!!!!!!" (a la Star Trek II).

2. The steam roller like consistency of the Aikman led offense. No one remembers great Aikman led come backs (like Roger) because he never had to. Call it "the system" if you want, but he made it go.

We were blessed to have both of them play for the Cowboys. Some teams have never had ONE great QB. We could be stuck in New Orleans talking about how great the Del Homme years were. ;)

Beardsley- One of my all time sporting heroes. Shearer- See above. Godlike status here on tyneside. David Ginola- Frustrating player but still had some terrific moments.
