Now that Roberts has been moved up to being nominated for chief justice, it is way more important to who replaces o'connor. Robert's votes will just replace rehquist's votes and they have very similiar views. O'Connor was the swing vote and got more liberal over the years. The democrats should save their bullets for this nomination. I think the democrats may be able to hijack the hearings as Bush is very politically weak right now . Thanks to his leadership, our country is in a mess.

Exactly right on your analysis, Jonathan. No point in anyone opposing a Rehnquist replacement, especially somebody with a resume like Roberts.
Judge Roberts' Children's Reign of Terror Continues After 72 years on the bench, Chief Justice William Rehnquist passed away at his home Saturday evening, his loving family and friends by his side. His mysterious death, however, raises more questions than it answers. Some of my readers have emphatically suggested that Bush out a hit on Rehnquist to promote his own "boy", and to distract the nation's attention away from his New Orleans horrorshow. But while the diversion theory holds water (no pun intended), Bush has been far too busy killing black people all week to snuff out an old nazi who was probably going to die anyway. No, as willing as I am to chalk up another poor soul to Bush, we must look elsewhere for the culprit.
Besides the Shrub, who stood to gain the most from Rehnquist's untimely demise? John Roberts, perhaps. A religious extremist who frequents houses of worship, Roberts is often seen conversing with members of the clergy in complete defiance of the Constitutional Separation Between Church & State. He's probably one of those "sanctity of human life" kooks who would find it difficult to grant someone Death with Dignity, let alone possess the raw schiavos to snuff out someone who inconveniences him.
Certainly, the Roberts children with their odd style of dress and bizarre behavior are capable of such a task, if only to elevate their father's ranking. There is strong evidence that little Jack Roberts gassed an entire village of ethnic Kurds in 1983. There's even stronger evidence that he didn't, but why quibble over details when so many lives are at stake? With Roberts in charge of the highest court in the land, little Jack and Jill could then complete Bush's sinister plan to eliminate the entire cast of Gilligan's Island, without fear of repercussions.
The Skipper, Mr. Howell, and Lovey all died on Pappy Bush's watch, so it was only a matter of time before Junior took up his father's mantle. Alas, Hamlet will never be the same without Gilligan. The entire world is going to the other side of the island in a makeshift balloon made from old clothes, and nobody seems to care.
Hopefully, senate Democrats will stop pussy-footing around for the sake of "bipartisanship" and seriously investigate Roberts' record, going over his entire life history with a fine tooth comb for any sign of right-wing shenannigans. I suggest they start with the little tykes.
