I hate andy warhol

andy warhol is a fucking douchebag. I may be drunk...I may be an alchoholic who is only 23 and drinks whiskey and eats mushrooms all by myself but that doesn't change the fact that andy fucking warhol was not a fucking brillant artist...or an artist at all for that matter and I fucking hate his guts. he makes me sick...or is that the shrooms? No!!! Its fucking andy warhol and his fucking groupies that make me sick.

How do you feel about the Dandy Warhols?

I can handle the dandy warhols. They don't bother me so much...actually, "scientist" bothers me. "Bohemian like you" doesn't bother me that much...suprising- cuz I know its shit, but sometimes shit is okay. Ha! like that eddie izzard skit about the baseball theme song..." you know its shit, right?" Ask me after a few more shots...I may change my mind ;)

ok point taken. I can take him and leave him. remember that artists of that generation actually knew how to paint before they became more eccentric. So usually there is some meaning it what they produced.

I suppose you're right...I guess I more have a problem with the specific subject matter, and the groupies...but how about you keep in mind that technique means fuck all...anyone can paint something they see with their eyes. technique is learned and most people can learn...practice makes fucking perfect. truthful expression is much harder to come by.

give me andy warhol over jackson pollock any day. a painting which can be made by a ceiling fan selling for millions of dollars...i just don't get it.

ha! pollock can go to hell too. Slightly more tolerable than warhol in my humble opinion. I enjoy kandinsky though...explain that to my drunk ass.

I think Andy Warhol is one of the most brilliant figures of the 20th century. Obviously you can disagree, but why do you think he's such a terrible artist?

If you read American Visions by Robert Hughes, he has a few nice things to say about Warhol. That aside, his critiques of Warhol are extensive and impressive. I’ve never been a big fan. Andy as the “Death of Art”?

The visual arts are in a bad way. I like a bit of Pollock. Started checking him out as a 14 year old because he was checked in a Stone Roses song. That’s how I started reading about Paris ’68 too. Ian Brown was a great formative idol (if such a thing exsts) – indeed my only ever Idol. Nice to see him still advocating anger in the NME this week.

Can you describe his technique of painting?

that was part of the point, i think. before he died i found him rather entertaining--in all the magazine gossip pages and such. i've never considered him a great artist, per se, but a fascinating man. i missed the warhola museum when i was in slovakia, though. i wonder how many people drive to the base of the tatras to see an andy warhol museum.

i prefer keith haring, myself; my first tattoo was of his dancing people. they've always inrigued me and reminded me of the insanity and beauty of living in NYC.

That was absolutely a huge part of the point. One of the cardinal concerns of his art is the way our entire culture has become one giant "celebrity whore," obsessed not only with celebrity figures but also superficiality and the reduction of individuals to flat, two-dimensional shades of character (hence the nature of his screen-printed portraits of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley).

You also have to remember that the art of the portrait had been virtually dead for decades prior to Warhol. Anyone into his films? I've only actually seen EAT and BEAUTY #2, but I've read a lot about his others.

I think his approach to American pop culture was masterfully satiric (anyone else see the humor in selling a painting that's basically an advertisement for Campbell's Soup?), but he became a victim of his own obsessions. He was fascinated and repelled by the celebrity culture, but he became part of it. Apart from giving the Velvet Underground a leg up and daring to challenge what was acceptable as "art", he just became pretentious and redundant.

That's the opinion I formed after watching "Biography", anyways :p
