I'm enjoying the new size, the new colour, the sports section is loads better, but the G2 is a bit cramped for my taste. I've adapted to the new typeface rather well but i'm not so keen on the new masthead. all in all 8/10.
this is the first time i've seen this, being back in the states and all. nope, don't like it.

no. i base everything on first impressions because i am a shallow cow.
seriously, the header doesn't appear until almost 1/3 of the way down the page! i don't care for the way the articles are lined up at the bottom, either. having said that, if i still lived in the UK i'd be a loyal guardian reader, regardless.

I can't comment on the paper because i don't read it,can't be arsed with proper papers, give me gossip,lies and pointless tit shots over anything with meaningful substance and informative journalism anyday
Haven't seen the new style copy over here yet, I just check out the web page and RSS feeds, which've remained the same.

Cheers for the tip, I do like that layout, not sure if I'dve put the story teasers on top as big, relative to the whole page, as they've done for this edition.
To be honest, it's dreadful. I don't know what they thought they were doing. It looks like a tacky copy of the London freebie, the Metro. I thought the new Berliner format was gonna bring it in line with the likes of the Times and the Independent, but it's now hanging halfway between those and the original broadsheet size it was. Frankly, they should've stuck with what they had. It looks like a comic and the fonts are just dire, it seems so ill thought-out.
Still, no one in England cares as long as it carries Sudoku. 
I've pretty much stopped reading papers, except for the MEN. Hmmm...
The new format does look pretty bad though.

I really like it. Its easier to manage on the train now than the old broadsheet version and sets itself aside from the tabloids with then Berliner format. Think it looks quite continental in style and brave of them to move to a size that noone else has gone for in the UK previously.
Bought for my first copy for a while today, having defected to The Independent a while back.

Nah, Sunj was waxing lyrical at QPHa on Tuesday about the time his Dad first taught him to fold a broadsheet properly as a nipper, but the Grauniad's just too-odd-a-size now, has lost its character. We'd both bought it Monday, then went back to the Indie on Tuesday: personally, I'd missed 'Get The Picture' too much!
After a week:
Size: 10/10 – Its perfect, not reliant on tabloid front pages (albeit of a left-liberal persuasion) like the Independent. It folds out lovely on the bus, and you don’t have to crank and turn pages when reading a longer article like a comment piece. I also like the formalisation of the front-page observer/comment piece “the 5th column”.
General Look: 7/10 – I like the new G2 and “G3s” layout. The text is very easy to read. The Irish edition isn’t printed on one of their 3 snazzy presses, so we don’t get cover-to-cover colour – or a staple in G2, which is a pity.
Masthead: 0/10 – replace a design classic with THAT! Ah the first time I saw it my heart sank! The old masthead was fantastic – stylish and a little radical – surely what the paper wanted to communicate. Now it’s all lower case serifs – contemporary and fashionable – everything I don’t want my paper to be. The all - lower case says “we don’t take ourselves seriously” and the blue says, “That editorial shift to the right you noticed wasn’t paranoia”. They should push it right up to the top of the page (ala Le Monde, etc) – but I guess that doesn’t shift units the same way that a picture of Germane Greer does
Overall: Ill still buy it. For me, there is no alternative. In Ireland, we have an exclusively tabloid national newspaper market, and one broadsheet “paper of record” – which is insular and reactionary in the extreme – along with having possibly the poorest layout of any paper I’ve ever seen. ever. The Irish Independent gave up any pretence of it being a serious paper when it downsized (if only its Sunday edition would admit the same), and The Irish Examiner is really the Cork Examiner with a new masthead. The Irish times takes the idea of a bourgeois, insular, reactionary, steaming pile of shit to a new extreme, but seems to have the reputation of being progressive and challenging. Bizarre. It has some of the least interesting columnists of any newspaper (exceptions: occasionally Fintan O’Toole, Lara Marlowe and John Waters) – and takes after the tabloids in editorial policy. It’s basically “The Sun” with a roman masthead and good grammar.
The Guardian (or is it theguardian) has some great columnists – I wouldn’t miss Gary Young, cartoonist Steve Bell or Martin Jacques to name but three – and I think George Monbiot is the most relevant public intellectual of our age. You take the rough with the smooth – the regular Labour apologist tripe by Polly Toynbee for the occasional piece by John Berger. Ill still get the print edition – its only €0.50 in the SU shop, and has a tangibility and legibility that has yet to be discovered online. The process of reading a paper is very different to that of reading an online edition – you are often turned to read articles that are on a page but you wouldn’t search out online.
I’m off to the shop now to get it. I hope the Saturday Review section hasn’t changed anything but its size and typeface. If it does, Ill be gutted – it is by far and away the best section of any paper I’ve ever seen. I see from the online edition that Robert Hughes has a piece in there – so it’s looking good.

Warrington's (on the borders of Manc. land) paper is still called 'The Guardian' and it's in tabloid format too!
