travis bickle--voted one of the top 100 villains in cinematic history by the AFI. i think he's too complex to be classified as a 'villain,' much to de niro's credit. he created an extremely diverse character--both villain and hero.

Agreed, Travis is his most intense role that I've seen.
I feel bad that America's greatest living actor is reduced to crap like that movie he did with Dakota "I'll be a crack addict by fourteen" Fanning last year. Meanwhile, Ashton Kutcher opens movies that make a billion the first weekend...
Once Upon A Time In America. Quite simply, the greatest movie ever made (I just wish I knew what the ending meant!).
Followed by Godfather II, Raging Bull, then Taxi Driver.

I agree. got to be once upon a time in america. Jimmy woods is clasic in it too. such a well made film. dead long too.
A fantastic Actor ! My favourites : 'Once upon a time in America' a stone gold Classic, 'Heat' and for the funny part another great Classic in my humble opinion 'King of comedy' with Jerry Lewis, seen it plenty of times and still make me laugh to piss.

Best overall film: Goodfellas
Best performance: Tough call there. Taxi Driver or Raging Bull.
But really King of Comedy is underrated IMHO.
on another note, who do you reckon his best on screen collabaration was with? hes worked with some pretty good talent over the years.
i'd have to say Ben stiller
on a serius note hmm i'd say his performance in deer hunter is good,so christopher walken wins. Al pacino's too easy a choice and they only share the screen for about 5 mins. mind you all his peformances pre 2000 we're good the new millenium hasn't agreed with old bobby boy in terms of film quality to output, he needs to get his arse back in gear with a Martin Scorsese film. Mind you so does joe pesci hasn't made a movie in over 7 years now

Its quite shocking, mind you he's won his oscar made his millions hes probably happy with his restaurant somewhere in NYC or doing a Kevin Keegan and vanishing to play golf for a few years

Pesci is essentially retired and a race horse owner these days. Though he did recently agree to be in the De Niro directed The Good Shephard, which should be out next year.

Hard to say which is my favourite but The DEER HUNTER,GOODFELLAS and ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA are fantastic.He always seems so REAL.Bloody great.

that film is awesome, the directors commentary is brilliant on the special edition it tells you all about who neil mcaully was in real life, i never knew this before wathcing the special edition DVD but most of the characters including names are based on real people.
my favourite bit is when he comes in to find the guy with his wife watching 'my fucking televsion set' Al Pacino, is just class, maybe tonights new thread will be your favourite al pacino film, but i bet the godfather would win that so no real point
Once Upon A Time In America, just edging out Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Deer Hunter and Casino. Always really enjoyed his role in Awakenings as well.
Awakening was a quite good movie.
To be honest, I have never seen Raging Bull or Taxi Driver... which is pretty amazing considering I'm a living movie encyclopedia and worked in a video store for 10 years 
Goodfellas, De Niro as Jimmy Conway, Great film, Great performance. Next to this The Deerhunter, Christ,this guys done some good films.
