I had my first listen to the new Simple Minds album Black & White on Saturday night.
It’s similar in many ways to Waiting For The Siren’s Call, although it is as much a Simple Minds album as Waiting For The Siren’s Call is New Order. It’s also true that there is some Book Of Brilliant Things, some I Wish You Were Here and some This Is Your Land & Mandela Day (as the band suggest).
I do hope though that my first impression of it being – in effect – a Good News From The Next World album minus She’s A River aren’t quite right, even if you can hear quality and class all over it as much as anything from Sons And Fascination onwards has.
