Help needed for the last few days I've been on edge, and finding it hard to relax. Too much family crap happening, plus I think, mum's death is finally hitting me.

So what's happening is that I find it hard to get a good nights sleep. So now both I'm on edge and tired.

Any tips other than alchohol please. This may work for a while, but really doesn't do much for me the next day. Its ok for the weekends, but I'm trying to hold down a job here.

Lifetime Movie Network. That puts me to sleep bigtime :thumb:

In all seriousness, I don't know what to say other than just try turning everything off at night and laying down. Perhaps you can put on an album you like that won't shock you out of a slumber and is relaxing. (for me, it's either Pet Sounds or Nick Drake's first album, as well as Sweetheart of the Rodeo by the Byrds)

Hope I've been (some) help

In all seriousness, go talk with a cousleor/therapist/psychologist. Sleeplessness can be a symptom of depression. Or maybe it's a symptom of something else. But you need to discuss it with a professional so you can (a) find out what's going on, and (b) deal with it appropriately. Do it now while it's manageable. If it's depression, it can spiral out of control if you don't deal with it.

My 2 cents.

I'm staying away form those mind butchers. I'm sure I'll be right in a day or two.

I used to have problems falling asleep as a sophomore more in college because my roommate always had a girl over, so I used to take Tylanol PM or Extra Strength to knock me out. It only makes you a bit drowsy in the morning.

It all depends upon the quality of the mind butcher.

OK, so you want to stay away from shrinks. Here's something that will help but won't affect your work performance: exercise. Go running. Get a good workout. That will help with the underlying problem, and has no harmful side-effects. You should be sleeping like a baby, and feeling better as well.

if all else fails, try watching some infomercials. ronco's pasta maker is always a good choice.

Ok I've been meaning to go jogging more often again anyway. My last run was on Monday.

Jogging is a good option. As you may know you find yourself in a kind of hypnotic state of mind after a few miles. Try to get your bad thoughts away at this point. It could work.

Concerning therapists : you can try. At first I was afraid too. The trick is to choose the right one. If you think you do not want to talk to him/her, try someone else. Once you feel it is ok, stay with the right one. Do not rush if you think you are not ready. I was like you, I did not want to go there at first. It took me almost one year to change my mind.

As you seem healthy to me, go running ! Australia is a wide country !

Very good advice. Very good.

The thing about exrecise is it has a positive effect on underlying mental health issues-- for example, it decreases anxiety, tension, depression, etc. So it's not just a matter of making yourself tired; you're also relieving the underlying problem in a healthy way.

OK, in that case, I recommend a cold shower. Or get a room. :D

Zen meditation helped me retain my sanity- as far as I know.

Actually I now think it could be something physical. In the last week I lost 2 kgs in weight, despite definitely not trying to. Last night I just a few beers really threw me, and later I felt really cold. Now I have a headache. I defeo think I'm coming down with something.

get cozy in bed, pick a good book to read, have some warm milk, and relax. all in silence.
