Do the birds actually sneeze and get aches and a runny beak??
But on a serious note this seems unreal to me that this type of breakout can happen this day and age. 
The government should now be on Red Alert and is there some sort of screening that can be done?

Found a dead bird outside my front window just now, didn't get any closer than the length of the shovel, just enough to get it off my yard and onto the vacant lot behind the house.

This is probably as serious as SARS was, and as we all know that wasnt the pandemic everyone was expecting
I don't think the epidemic will happen this year, but I reckon at sometime in the next 4 years it will happen.
The virus has transmitted to humans and it's only a matter of time until it evolves and is able to pass from human to human, although hopefully the scientists and drug companies will rapidly get their acts together to make a vaccine (not possible until the virus mutates; can't be isolated until then).
Until the virus does mutate you're only at risk if you work with birds.

Ahh, the panic over disease.
Coming from the Toronot area in Canada, I can say that the media is really good at scaring the crap out of the world. We're still hurting from SARS, then we just had that Legionaire's disease freak out. Gotta watch out for those less than 20 killed pandemics.
So, I've seen the news and the CBC over here pointed to a "pandemic" from the past, the Bovine Flu or Pig Flu that was supposed to morph to humans and become the next pandemic. Anyone remeber that pandemic? No. That's because it didn't happen.
Lesson here: Be cautious, we all know it can happen, but let's not freak out until we need to. My biggest worry is that it will become dangerous and the drugs will only make it to the rich countries that don't even have the disease. Hopefully governments will be smart, send the drugs where they are needed and prevent the spread.

That's cool, I knew there was a Bolton over there, now I know someone who lives there.
We're pretty small (about 17,000) people, but it is growing. Thing is, we're a sleeper town for Toronto. The mass exodus (me included) in the morning is crazy. Bigger issue, we in Canada do not have near the transit system you guys have. We seem to hate trains.
Be kinda cool to keep in touch, especially if I ever venture over seas or you come over here.
