Watching Man United play whoever it was last night in the Champions League, I couldn't help wondering what would happen if Tony Wilson took over the running of the club. Would it have a few years of massive success and then collapse into insolvency? Or would it last a week before going bankrupt? That would cheer up a few football fans around the country.
If Tony Wilson ran Man Utd

The club would sign a few non-leaguers who were rumoured to be quite good, a couple of "continental stars" with "flair" and damaged septum, and a couple of local youths believed to have some talent.
The local youths would go on to play for England, the club would leave Old Trafford and move to a new ground at the tail end of Didsbury, the non-leaguers would all turn out to be shite after all, and the "continental stars" would turn out to be scally wasters with even bigger septum issues than originally identified. Oh, and ACR would still be "critically acclaimed" shit.
In terms of business practices Factory Records & Man United are about as far apart as things can get.
Where the hell did that thought come from anyway? Wilson has never mentioned anything remotely close to that.

And after a while the hardcore fans would get pissed off with all the commercial shite and set up their own record company ![]()
Oh FC United, the only team in Manchester not in debt.

It's a bloody joke, mate. I'd rather he took over Chelsea and they went out of business. Believe or not, I hope Man United give Chelsea a run for their money in the Premiership, otherwise the relegation battle's going to be more interesting than the top again this season.

whoa!! I wasnt having a pop there mate!! computers eh?
just curious that's all, seemed a really random thought. It would be like Delia Smith running Norw... eerr hang on? ![]()
I'll you what mate, when you're Norwich fan you've got to have a sense of humour, especially when you're a shower of shite like we are at the moment. I went to Old Trafford to see Norwich play. We lost 1-0 by the way. Me and my brother asked some bloke for directions to the ground, and he sent us through Mosside to Man City's ground. I was shitting myself that day.
I went to College in Moss Side, just gettin a buttie at lunch was an adventure. Although the area aint so bad these days. While we're moaning, at least you aint in £800m of debt ![]()
If you want an idea of what might happen if Tony Wilson ran Man Utd he wrote an article for The Guardian's guide to the football season in which he described the club's fans as "a bunch of miserable, hypocritical, whingeing bastards".

Christ, could you imagine his team talk? "Right...I'm going to sign it in my own F**king blood, the players have the freedom to F**K OFF.."

I read that as well. Didn't he go on about we're not living in a socialist paradise or something? Bit ironic considering the amount of money (ie. New Order's) he threw away. I dare say he's not one of the people who's going to have problems forking out a load of money to get a season ticket. Too much money is killing football.

I think it was Stephen Morris who said that Tony Wilson was 'a Oxbridge educated gobshite.' Mind you, he is a moderately entertaining twat and, if I was in a band, I'd want to be on his record label. I just wouldn't want his hands on the money.

I work with a guy who played with FC's centre forward last season at Whitton Albion. They earn £60 per week. We play at Bury's ground and get bigger crowds than them...go figure :p

How the fuckin hell do you know that Tim? ![]()
And dont tell me you know him ![]()

I'm a football scout. I spend inordinate amounts of time and money watching games for players, tactics, forthcoming opposition etc. I have to know what's happening in the semi-pro game, who's doing what, who's not happy at x , etc etc.
