For those who don't know on Nov 1 is Melbourne Cup day. Yes its a horse race. So does anybody have any tips. I know virtually nothing about horses, so everytime in the past when I've put a couple of bucks of my hard earned on a horse, it went straight to the glue factory. So these days I just stay with the sweeps.
Anyway it may be a holiday in Melbourne, but my work is going out to a lunch. Should be nice.

there's a betting shop across the road from me. lived in oz for a while, so i know all about the 1st Tuesday in november.

i just invested my 7 bucks in our office sweep. that's probably all i'll do this year. don't ask me what horses i got, as we will draw them tomorrow.
anyway we're of to our cup lunch very soon. for those who don't know the melbourne cup is a big deal here. it is literaly the race that stops the nation. people dress up, have picnics, get pisssed etc. for those who want to put a bet on, its run at 3pm local time, which which is just over 3 hours away.
punting really is a mugs game isn't it.
On my $5 sweeps I got a return of $4. I then went out and got myself a cup mystery pack. Even with having the first and the third horse in it I only got a return of $11 after laying out $15. Ah well once a year.
