i'm off to see DJ spooky's new video remix of 'birth of a nation' tomorrow night in gainesville. should be interesting; i've never seen the entire film and i'm curious to see what spooky's done with it.

anyone else seen it?

a vaguely remember seeing it a long time ago. isn't this some super patriotric western type thingy? What would a dj do to it?

it's DW griffith's 'classic' 1915(?) film abut how the KKK saved white women from the black savages after the civil war, during reconstruction. DJ spooky is black and he wanted to re-do it since a lot of people have forgotten about it (especially young people). it was america's first blockbuster film, scarily enough, and griffith was the bruckheimer of his day.

he wanted to show it as griffith intended--as a racist piece of film that was lauded by president wilson and many americans at the time.

as he's a techno DJ i imagine it will be something electronic, but we'll see.
