Why?.

Uncle Liam wrote: I actually question whether you have even listened to Low Life, never mind own a copy.

Yes, I have.

I wrote this for another thread. It explains why I detest the album.

Technique was my first NO album (after International) and I loved it. Great songs from start to finish. LowLife was my second and I remember hoping that it would grow on me,(as I'd heard TLU and TPK on International and wasn't impressed)I must have given it about eight plays and it simply didn't. To me it was the equivilent of having you ears massaged with a cheesegrinder. Later on, I found out that it was the fans favourite. So I tried it again, but the same reaction.

Nearly stopped listening to NO after that, but Movement got me back into them.

Low Life is New Orders most consistent album. Everything is that is good about New Order is in those eight songs. An album that contains Sunrise, Face Up, Sooner Than You Think, This Time of Night and Perfect Kiss, which a so called New Order fan claims to "despise" and wants to burn leaves only the following explanations:

a) you are an idiot b) you are deaf c) you have never listened to the album

Which one is it?

SO WHAT if I don't like LowLife?

None apply to me.

Now answer my question...

Well, its not so much the fact that you dont like Low Life, its the complete disdain you show for it. Low Life is universally regarded as one of, if not the best new order albu,. Yet, here you are saying you would like to burn your copy. This confuses me, and probably a few more people as well. Why would a so call New Order fan show such disdain for one of their strongest pieces of work? Thats like an Oasis fan calling Definitley Maybe "shite" or a Stone Roses fan slagging of their first album. This clearly makes no sense, so i am therefore led to the the conclusion that you have a) never listened to the album or b) you are just an idiot.

I think it was Mark Rutter who said to you, "if you dont like Low Life, you dont like New Order." Couldnt have put it better myself.

Heres another one for you, in the unlikely event that you ever see New Order live, and they played the following set list, would you be disappointed:

Elegia 5 8 6 Blue Monday As it Was... TPK Love Vig Ultraviolence Sunrise This Time of Night Sooner Than You Think Truth Face Up

which is just a random collection of songs...

It's meant as a joke. Digital Mike said he'd burn his copy of Blue Monday. So why can't I say 'Aye, I'll burn LowLife.'

It's down to personal opinion. I think that Master of Reality is the best Black Sabbath album ever, but if someone disagreed, even hated it, I wouldn't annoy them about it. It's their choice.

Complete and utter crap. People like NO for various reasons. Just because I don't like an album that most others do isn't a crime.

Elegia (don't mind it live) 5 8 6 Blue Monday As it Was... TPK (toilet time):evil4: Love Vig (still in toilet):evil4: Ultraviolence Sunrise (bar) This Time of Night (passed out) Sooner Than You Think (still passed out) Truth (up) Face Up (heading out early):evil4:

Not a bad setlist, but you know my feelings on LowLife

touche.

No, surprisingly. While my highly educated brain cannot get my head around the fact that you dont like Low Life (apart from the obvious reasons i have given), one is left to wonder what you think of other New Order albums? We know you like Technique, so i presume Fine Time is your fave of that, and movement set you back on track after Low Life almost stopped you from listening to New Order.

Lets see? Lets see, is Republic a work of genius. Is WFTSC hoisted up to the status of legendary by the presence of JetStream on the album? And as for Get Ready, well, no doubt you hate Primitive Notion and Crystal, but its a good album nonetheless, with a brilliant ending in the shape of Run Wild?

No, it's a toss up between Mr. Disco and Love Less.

Uncle Liam wrote: and movement set you back on track after Low Life almost stopped you from listening to New Order.

Correct.

Uncle Liam wrote: Lets see? Lets see, is Republic a work of genius.

Go to State of the Nation forum. There's a thread called 'Republic Defence'. See what I wrote.

If you can't be bothered:

It's an OK album, but most of the numbers (Young Offender,Chemical,Liar etc) could be anybody.

Uncle Liam wrote: Is WFTSC hoisted up to the status of legendary by the presence of JetStream on the album?

I think Who's Joe, WFTSC, Krafty and Turn do that fine.

Uncle Liam wrote: And as for Get Ready, well, no doubt you hate Primitive Notion and Crystal, but its a good album nonetheless, with a brilliant ending in the shape of Run Wild

Wrong on two counts, but correct on one. The right one is Run Wild.

Primitive Notion is Sunrise version 2. So how can you like one but not the other?

Can't really hear that.

Love the life affirming chorus, and the guitar matches it.

Can you not really hear it because you have never listened to it?

Anything to get at me, eh.

That's like someone saying 'Enjoy The Silence' is True Faith Mark 2. Some hear it, while others don't.
