Close to a dream, it's a fantasy... she's dying and she's having a fantasy about the life she could have been.
It's not easy to detect the parts that is real and fantasy as sometimes there is only a clue telling you about it (like the ashtray)
You can see in her real life she sees all people that will become part of her fantasy.

Ever driven along Mulholland Drive?? Scary stuff - large parts of it are virtually dirt-track, there's barely any fucking crash barriers despite the huge ravines....no wonder the bad people used to dump corpses down there....
