Does Smashing Pumpkins count? They were still "indie" with Gish.

sorry no... smashing pumpkins doesn't count, although billy corgan made an attempt at indie cred by teaming up with David Pajo (Slint, Aerial M, Tortoise) and Matt Sweeney (Chavez) in zwan.

Blues Explosion are/were one of the best live acts ever. I liked Slowdive meself. Would've married Rachel Goswell given half a chance.

The 90s were sorta bleak for me in terms of music. Looking at my cd collection I slowed down in purchasing in the 90s. The whole Nirvana/Pearl Jam/STP grunge thing was the message that good times were taking a coffee break.
