The White Room is a classic. The last 4 tracks are very chilled, a bit like their earlier stuff.

Sorry about that! As you can probably ascertain from my screenname, I am a huge, huge fan. I think they're one of the greatest bands of all-time, and some of the greatest geniuses of pop culture at large of the twentieth century. How's THAT for an opinion? :D

They started as The JAMS in the late 80s, and then became the "stadium house" group The KLF. And the song you are thinking of is 3 AM Eternal, their biggest hit. :D

What a magnificent band they were... I had the white album, but my ex destroyed it along with a load of other rarities I had.

CHILL OUT was actually made after THE WHITE ROOM and is absolutely fantastic! I highly recommend it. It's very rich and interesting and incredibly atmospheric. It's actually very disturbing and creepy at times, but in the most wonderful way. I HIGHLY recommend it!
Sorry, got confused it wasn't the white room I was talking about, but some other album prior to that... it had a white cover with a pyramid thingy on it; the tracks weren't as top class as usual; I think it was one of their 1st LP releases...

The KLF were the dog's bollocks. They came out at just the right time for me as I was 14 back in 89 and started getting into the Dance / Rave culture. One of the older lads in our local pub was at school with Bill Drummond up the road, said he was a mad bastard then. Burning a million though? daft fcukers and yes they did film it.
Cracking band, I have a few singles & 12"s - but fook all on CD, so I'd be happy for any copies doing the rounds.

I love The KLF. I remember back around 1992 paying approx. IR£15 for "1987: What The Fuck's Going On?" on vinyl, twice the average cost back then. Got some strange looks from non-fan mates but it was worth it for the full version of "The Queen & I". The song that caused all the hassle with ABBA, I think. Did they order all copies of the album to be destroyed or something? 
I also got The White Room,* Shag Times, Chill Out (class album) and a few singles but that's about it. Last I heard they were known as The K Foundation, or did Y2K come after that? (*edit* Checked out the link posted earlier & found out it did.)
* I have The White Room on both cassette & cd. The cd, bought a few years after original release, has the radio edit of "Last Train To Trancentral" which is quite different to the version on my cassette copy. I'd love to get that one on cd.

The White Room is a top album.Did once listen to the Chill Out album.Loved the bit where Elvis is mixed in a bit with the ambient sounds.
The single release of Justified and Ancient with Tammy Wynette was ace.
3AM Eternal ,What Time Is Love (America),Last Train To Transexual.... all top tunes that remind me of the early 90s.
Did watch the burning of a million quid film.Um.... interesting if nothing else.
Yeah ,Bill Drummond and .. the other guy were cool as fuck.The 1987 What The Fuck Is Going On? album i never got to hear but the music press seemED to go on about it forever back in the day.

Whatever happened to K FOUNDATION.Already with a penchant for throwing away good money in an obscene manner,they followed it by spending a fortune on an advertisement of their new incarnation.They played a sample of their "forthcoming" single on the TV,featuring the theme from The Big Country.

i liked the KLF,i have a couple of 12""s aswell,i work with a guy who also knew Bill Drummond,he said he thought he was destined to be famous in the music scene..
I think it's funny that Bill Drummond (aka King Boy D) was the manager for The Teardrop Explodes at one point.

Try listening to The JAMS/The Timelords.
i recently found a 12" called 'fuck the millenium' which was credited to the justified ancients. i think it came out in '97 or so. it's interesting.
i love the klf. one of my favorites. my brother conned my copy of "chill out" off of me. actually, i traded it to him for a taped copy and "white light/white heat" on vinyl. i've never bought chill out again and my tape copy of so thin these days... it's almost hard to listen to.
i rank the klf as some sort of british residents or negativland. they're as musically accomplished as the residents and as wonderfully caustic as negativland. they're as much fun to talk about as they are to listen to.
Good stuff, from what I've heard, my mom couldn't believe Justified And Ancient when she first heard it 
. Plus, Bill Drummond was smart enough to get The Triffids to back him up on his solo album
They were superb....(nearly) remember Glasto 1990, all you could hear from across the sight was 'What Time Is Love' every night...superb! 
The White Room is fantastic! I have a 12" by them called..'Kylie & Jason'....they also have a sense of humour

a question... on the History of the Jams there are 6 songs from their pre_Doctorin Tardis period... I presume that they cleared the samples with these 6 tracks for this release... i assume that there are more which could not rereleased.
any other good old tracks that are unavailable one could look for mp3s? which has the Abba samples?
The one with the Abba samples is "The Queen & I" from the album "1987: What The Fuck's Going On?" Although to call it samples isn't strictly true, it's more like using most of the song (Dancing Queen) & adding their own lyrics. Have no idea as to its availability these days though.
I've got two albums of theirs. The White Room and the one with the cows on it, I think. What Time is Love is a classic but I have a certain fondness for Last Train to Transcentral.
I remember the trance mix(b-side of cd single) of WTIL having a video of a car driving in the desert or something through a heat haze.......and thats all it was. There might have been some sheep as well! so it obviously wasn't in the desert as such......

Just been listening to Build A Fire. Great tune. My White Room cassette's been getting some extended play since I discovered this thread. 14 years since it was released!!

It's the slow, ballad-like song on THE WHITE ROOM loaded with steel guitar and a bassline reminiscent of the one from Badalamenti's theme for TWIN PEAKS.
Listened to the white room and i wasn't overly impressed, i keep listening to see if it grows on me

You've got to research them though - that's when you'll really start to appreciate them. Learn about the stunts they pulled, etc. You'll at LEAST find them to be hilarious.

I think only 3 songs made it here.. 3AM Eternal, Justified and Ancient... and somehow a few of What Time Is Love? And Last Train to Trancentral.
I also know that their mix of Depeche Mode's Policy of Truth is mislabled...
But other than that, I have no idea what they have done! I have the Justified and Ancient CD single in my collection
Loved the KLF, mad feckin' Scotsmen, can't beat them.
Went to see Blue Man Group in Vegas. Last part of the show was tons of paper being hauled over the audience to the deafening sounds of "Last Train to Transcentral". I ignored the paper and sat transfixed by the music...classic.
