Your favourite paintings

We had a thread about favourite artists. Now it's just about pictures. What are your favourite and why?

Here's the list of my favorite pictures - the ones I’m never tired of looking at and the ones that have me sense this world.

My favorite painting of all-time is Vilhelm Hammershøi's "Sunbeams":

I like Toulouse-Lautrec's poster with the words "Moulin Rouge" on it and his other poster (lithograph) with the words "Divan Japonais" (I think that's how you spell it) on it. I also like Jean Cocteau's drawing of the cat and also Michelangelo's "David" statue as well.(It's not a painting, but I like it.)

I am also a huge fan of P.S. Krøyer's "Summer Evening at the Beach at Skagen. The Painter and his Wife":

It's breathtaking in person. Not only is it very large, but the rendering of the colors and the LIGHT are absolutely astonishing. Such a marvelous piece. I'm writing a paper on it right now, actually!

fave paintings (or works or art in general) are much more difficult for me to choose..artists are easier because you can contain so much more in one person and their style..or even styles.

I really really love works by Komar and Melamid, especially Lenin Hailing a Cab (in NYC) and their most wanted/least wanted series

there's also a lot of contemporary vietnamese works that I really enjoy

but I'm tired so I don't feel like going through the work to list it all

otherwise I also have the scream in my room..some van gogh, a Fernand Leger work, and then the typical Michelangelo's David, Warhol's Campbell soup cans...

my brain isn't working..oh well

the scream by Edward Muench. i got to see it in Melbourne last year.

Sunrise by Monet, love staring at that one, plus the Renoir that Steve Wynn has on display at the Bellagio gallery in Las Vegas, can't remember the title, but it was of a lane surrounded by trees on both sides.

actually, that print is rolled up in a tube for safe-keeping...

might make an appearance when we get in the new house...

I had 4 of Munch's prints up in my old place....

they had a Munch exhebition on in Melbourne. from memory there were 3 screams there. i got a few scream stickers.

Munch is a class act. I got to go to the Munch Museum in Oslo this past week - fantastic place!

My wife likes flowers . She said they made her happy. Well I'm not fond of flowers really, but I guess I'll try to have her like Fantin-Latur or Flemish still-life painters of the 17th century.

Have you ever seen it at Yale University? It's a zinger!

I lean towards the abstract art, specifically the expressionist period- painters like Kandinsky, Rothko, and Franz Kline. "Scudera" by Franz Kline is brilliant. I seem to favor abstract art as I got older, maybe some correlation there.

yes, his minimalist abstract paintings are cool, more in line with Rothko especially the underpainting effect.

Wow, you lot are cultured!

I like Salvador Dali and Cesar Manrique, they're the only ones i've seen that i like really but like the ones you've put on.

does Rolf Harris's count and that curly haired american who does the paintings on that Cable channel that no one watches?? except me that is
