Hmmm.... maybe I don't know enough about this... most of my JFK history comes from the Kevin Costner film...

Although I still think Di was bumped off by the state...

It is a great film, but full of lies. This site highlights 100 errors of judgement.

JFK errors

The other links I've posted deal with other matters of controversy in the case.

i think that the following is the best part of all this story about JFK's assass and i really like people that still cares cause there is always something to new learn from history.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946

Lincoln failed to win the Vice Presidential nomination in 1856. Kennedy failed to win the Vice Presidential nomination in 1956.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Lincoln defeated Stephen Douglas who was born in 1813. Kennedy defeated Richard Nixon who was born in 1913.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost children while in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners.

Both Presidents had Vice Presidents named Johnson.

Lincoln's Vice President was called Andrew Johnson who served in the House of Representatives in 1847. Kennedy's Vice President was called Lyndon Johnson who served in the House of Representatives in1947.

Both successors (their Vice Presidents) were named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1838. (not 1839)! Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by the three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Lincoln was shot at the theatre called "Ford." Kennedy was shot in a car named "Lincoln", made by Ford.

Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse. Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

NOTE: President Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 and died on April 15, 1865 (age 56) President Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917 and died on Nov 22, 1963 (age 46)

Erm, while all this is interesting, it really doesn't prove a conspiracy, does it?

the only thing that the list from above shows is that sometimes the history is just repeated. there is nothing to do with conspiracy. just put it to show that there is always something to learn from history and maybe to expect some more things to happen...

Like Christopher Owens I spent years being fascinated by the assassination, egged on by authors like Henry Hurt (Reasonable Doubt) and David Lifton (Best Evidence - cracking read but I think the man is mad). Single ("magic") bullet theory, sniper on the grassy knoll, Oswald's 'double' at the Cuban Embassy, questions over Oswald's shooting ability, his time in the Soviet Union, etc etc etc blah blah blah

Now I tend to think the conspiracy theories were all bollocks and that LHO really was a lone gunman. But it's so long since I read anything about it I can't remember why I changed my mind. Think the discrediting of the 79 House Select Committee on Assassinations (the bit about the motorcycle tape of 'gunshots' mentioned above) had a lot to do with it though...

Although there are some minor mistakes, it is compulsive reading, whether you're pro or anti conspiracy.

Conspiracies are good. They have a habit of keeping bullshit afloat before it sinks out of sight.Look at the Diana inquiry. That was more or less written off as no suspicious circumstances. When the UK set up its own inquiry from pressure from the public,a lot of stuff is now emerging. The way the autopsy was handled,to only a fortnight ago,it looks like the driver Henri Paul's blood sample showing him to be drunk, turns out not to be his blood after all.

From the stuff I've seen I believe there was no conspiracy at all and he did it himself. Oswald was a sharpshooter with Communist leanings and a few vouchers short of a toaster by all accounts. I found that BBC documentary on the assasination that aired a few years ago incredibly interesting. I had no idea Oswald had lived in Russia and stuff like that.

The computer generated scenarios which show the bullet angles in relation to the motorcade proved without a shadow of a doubt it was Oswald. Add to that he was a gifted marksman with a Marine record to prove it there seems to be even less doubt left. All the interviews with his friends and family painted Oswald as a lonely yet single minded individual who was tired of having his opinions ignored and was constantly trying to gain noteriety. He was desperate to live in Russia but once the authorities there realised he didn't know very much regarding US secrets he was swiftly turfed back home and into a fairly depressing lifestyle. Not much cash, abusing his Russian wife etc. all his grand Communist plans were over and he was restless to make his mark on the world I.e. get his beloved philosophy into the mainstream.

I agree completely with Tabbsy on this one... most people can't handle the fact a single individual conspired and succeded in killing a President in broad daylight. It's too much for the old grey matter to process so the conspiracy theories are rolled out to offer some level of comfort. It's got to be the Russians, it's got to be the Mafia etc. Good vs. Evil, no pesky shades of grey.

My two pence anyway...

I'll nominate the next topic: who was the real Jack The Ripper? My money's on Francis Tumblety, an American doctor in London at the time.

Alistar, if you're interested, then I'd advise you to look at the links I provided above. They take every aspect of the Kennedy assasination, and break it down with evidence (key word)

I'm not totally sure that Oswald did do it alone, but the fact is that the most compelling evidence is against him and him alone. My step-dad used to keep all the "conspiracy books" lying around, and I think the fact that a lot of the authors seemed to base their theories on "heard from a third party several years after" or "may have been just a coincedence, but let's blow it out of proportion to sell books" pretty much made me wary of such "facts".

The thing is, if Oswald acted alone and completely on his own, then it's in the realm of a typical political assassination (albeit with more widespread implications). But if he was a patsy or a front for something more sinister (though not as exaggerated as "CIA-Mafia-Cubans-Military-Whatever"), then all the better for the evidence to come to light. I fear that the truth has been lost through years not just of efforts to prove conspiracy theories, but efforts to quash or dispell them.

As for JTR, my money's on it being just a guy who moved through history without any notice, albeit becoming the most notorious serial killer of all time. It's tempting to ascribe it to "Prince Eddy", Sir William Gull, or any of the various high-society suspects, but chances are the real Ripper was lower-class and a sexual sadist. Then again, the police were awful quick to blame it on foreigners (I think two of the main suspects who emerged were Polish and Russian), so it could be a conspiracy a la "From Hell". Again, we'll probably never know the truth.

Here's another one: did the real Rudolph Hess die in Spandau in 1987, or was that a decoy for Hess who may have died in 1941 before he could fly to England? :skeptic: (one of my alltime favorite episodes of "Unsolved Mysteries")
