Madonna's Confessions on a Dancefloor

Any other braves souls give this a listen? Very house-y and dance oriented, fits my mood recently. As we all know, Stuart Price produced this too, and many of the drum effects on GIAUE seem to be included on her new disc too (e.g. 2'44" of "Sorry")

Other comments and/or observations?

I've listened to it once and it has its moments but I don't think the overall idea works. Albums where tracks flow into each other can work (The Chemical Brothers can do it, even when there's a mixture of tempos and styles) but Confessions On A Dance Floor is too samey and little stands out. Even though I was dreading hearing it Hung Up works really well and Isaac (and especially the way the Arabic samples are used) is striking but the rest is unmemorable.

Madonna should work with William Orbit again but if that's not possible then she should look to collaborate with other dance artists/DJs/producers/remixers such as Tiga, Black Strobe or Mark Brydon (from Moloko) or, given that we're talking about the biggest name in music, Rollo (from Faithless), Fatboy Slim or Basement Jaxx.

i listened to it, thought some of it was very cheesy and that one about loving new york is utter bullshit, but it has some ok songs on there too,

Not bad and ok I like Madonna (big sis was 14 when Madge got huge so I got it full blast) ok "Like a Prayer" is an all time fave song

anyhoo "Hung Up" is a great single-the first 4 songs are quite good....but a decent amount of the lyrics are crap "I love New York" and "Issac" are pitiful

Madonna is going full retro-def pinching off of herself. I hear "Dress You Up", even "Like a Prayer" in there at places. I heard a lot of old 80s-PSB, erasure and even "Confusion."

the continuous dance mix is gimmicky-tho I do not have to pay cover and watered down drinks.. It's good, but not brilliant....like the feeling Madonna could do so much more if she pushed herself

I saw part of the video for her new single whilst flipping through channels last night and...what the fuck was she wearing? Her 50-year-old legs don't do wonders in that very retro-chic thing she was wearing. Puleeze...it looked like a re-run of the Confusion video, minus the pleasing sight of Gillian in short-shorts.

I agree with most of the reactions here. Most of the album sounds the same and most of the lyrics are pretty trite. "Hung up," "Let it will be," and "Jump" stand out for me, but the rest of the album is pseudo-techno dross. Madonna's talked about this being futuristic disco, but if it is futuristic, why does the instrumentation sound so dated? I like PSB, but a lot of the synths and programming sounded like something off Very, which it works then because Neil Tennant's lyrics are interesting and it changes with each song. Basically, the album plays like an average club rotation, which a lot of monotonous dross and a few notable tracks.

7.5 out of ten... but may revise upwards as it's growing on me...

Hung up gets airplay around here. Nothing ground breaking. 20 years too late. I really wish she would fuck off and die but that's just me.

Mmhh, can't tell definitely by now as i've just gave it one ear only, but the first impression is quite good.

me sister got the Immaculate collection years ago, and I liked Holiday, Dress You Up and a few others, but the gap-toothed one is not for me sorry

i don't think i'll rush out to get this one. i'll probably be sick of it with all the airplay its getting. now why can't the order get this kind of exposure.

Saw that performance with her in a leotard and although she has a good figure for her age a high cut leotard did nothing at all for her. Not a Madonna fan - I only really like 'Frozen'.

I just got the CD from JB HiFi while doing some other Xmas shopping after work. On it's second play at the moment as I type this thru headphones so as not to keep the whole neighbourhood awake(It's nearly midnight as I'm typing this). I'm inclined at the moment to agree with most replies relating to how most of the album borrows very heavily off Erasure, PSBs, her old stuff and even skates very closely to ripping off a hooky-style bassline circa Movement during, believe it or not, I Love New York. Some of the lyrics are a bit trite but that's nothing strange to Madge. My least favourite thing about the album overall so far is the overlapping mix between songs; it's been done before and done better and each song should really have had a bit more breathing space before and after. Hung Up, using that old ABBA synth riff is fantastic. Jump is the most obvious 2nd single. It's very unfortunate that NO and Madge share the same label because they'll always upsell a female artist(prob. a sexist thing to say, but too true I'm afraid)and she's never been shy about showing off her trophy hubby and kids to the paparazzi, where Barney and Co. have never indulged in that sort of BS with thier respective spouses/partners/kids.

Right, did anybody see her 'I'll tell you a secret' documentary on Channel Four last night?

I caught some of it and i've come to the conclusion that... MADONNA IS GREY!

Yes folks, don't be shocked. Anytime she's on video she's always in black and white. I've decided she's either dead or very dull and when she's seen in colour it is actually just the work of a very skilled make-up artist.

Think about it...The videos for Vogue, Cherish... i could go on.

For a minute I thought you were just doing a bitch thing about the hair (and was minded that my first thought when NO came on stage at the apollo was, fook me, hooky needs a bottle of grecian2000). But you mean grey like John Major (I can't remember, was that spitting image or real life?)

I think you may be right.

I should point out I know nowt about football because here, it's either a big thing for yer sectarian bigot type (and easy way to meet and stab the other side every few weeks), OR just a matter of hoping they don't show that clip of bangor's goalie throwing the ball into the net on EVERY sporting moron show til the end of time.

I have however seen MU's ground from the top of t'wheel and Bolton's from the motorway.

I watched abit of that last night, it was bloody boring i thought, i don't like interviews/programs about her because she always comes across as a really arrogant bitch.

I'm addicted to Hung Up..I have to listen to it at least once each day, though it's getting better, because now it's literally once a day. I don't have the album yet because I'm saving my money for christmas presents, though a friend of mine really likes it ~Victoria
