Just picked up LTM's fantastic re-issue last week and I'm loving it. Take 5 is particularly choice - incredible, even. Any fans here? Anyone with live gigs to trade/weed? Anyone get to see them live at any point? I'm a growing fan.:D

I was living in Mancland when all the 'Northside' graffiti starting appearing all over said town, without anyone knowing too much about the band themselves. Then they got the Mondays support slot with MC Buzz B (anyone remember him?) at the end of 89, then the album was hyped big time, and it all started to snowball for them... .
Last remember seeing them in 91 or 92 at the Marquee in London supporting Revenge - few of us from here were drinking in the pub which sits on the same site now, day after Brixton, and I was trying to explain where the stage was etc - and at said gig I don't think a single person got up to dance to Northside. There was, literally, maybe 20 people there or so, then maybe double that for Revenge.
End of the road for both acts really.
Northside, in fairness, did have a couple of classics in LSD and Rising Star though.
Yes i whent to see northside late 80s early 90s seen them support the mondays at the free trade hall that was a fookin cray gig also seen them at the hacienda with a group called the paris angels and also twice at the academy.I have got avideo at home of northside at the PSV club and also a live recording on cassette of northside at the hacienda.
Paris Angels! Blast from the past. Perfume was a quality tune.
My mates sister went out with the ginger guitar fella, cant remember his name, went on to play with Black Grape I think.
Agree with Al about Northside, couple of decent tunes, but were a bit too similar to everything else at that time to really stand out.
I also seen them at the hacienda, i had SWTAT on 12" but never heard the album. it was a good gig though. Has it been re-issued wordwide?
Take 5??? Perhaps the greatest musical composition of the 20th Century?? That Take 5?? Acoustic Alchemy does a great cover of it. I'd like to hear this take of it.

Yes, I do remember MC Buzz B. The Last Tree was one of the best singles of 1990 IMHO. I still listen to the album Words Escape Me quite a lot. And that dance choon he did with Lionrock, Packets of Peace is ace. It came on the radio on some classics' hour some weeks ago and I really cranked up the volume in my car, which I usually don't do even if I happen to like the music.
Northside had a fantastic song in Shall We take a Trip? But the rest of their output is a bit so-and-so.
4 classics. Rising Star, Moody Places, Take 5 & Trip.
I also have the video from the PSV transferred to DVD and a couple of other wee snippets. Top band.
I have the album on LP but not CD just yet, it's just been re-issued on LTM I think.

Saw that at Liverpool Uni or Poly even, possibly with Intastella. Still have SWTAT on 12". Don't think I bothered with the album. I did get Intastella's, though, pretty lame, from what I can remember.
Also remember MC Tunes, Tunes Splits The Atom, was it? Think one of his sampled I Am The Ressurection.

Yup, you got the right song, it was Tunes Splits The Atom with the Stone Roses sample!
Don't forget The Only Rhyme That Bites (...ah) by 808 State featuring Mc Tunes. I think they sampled part of the theme music from Bonanza or Dallas or something (any suggestions?). I bought it on 7" and preferred the B-side - ie the dub without MC tunes!
