The Christmas Special I'd Like to See :D

Anyone here ever run across a viewing of The Star Wars Holiday Special before? If not, you are missing one of the great unintentional comedic gems from the late Seventies

Let me set it up for you: one day a few years back, my cousin and I were at the local comic book shop (he was shopping, I was there to mock the kids playing "Magic:The Gathering") and we came across a VHS copy proclaiming itself "The Star Wars Holiday Special" from Christmas 1978, and stating that it was a rare copy of the special that was so "atrocious, George Lucas swore to burn" every copy.

Naturally, we had to see it...

My cousin bought it for a fairly hefty price considering this was a VHS tape in the age of DVD. He brought it by my house later that night. We sat down and popped the tape in...and nothing would ever be the same

What followed was an hour or so's worth of terrible acting, cheesy effects, and more Wookiee dialogue than anyone would ever want to hear. I'm dead serious about the whole "Wookiee dialogue" part. And apparently, the oldest Wookiee ("Itchy") is a bit of a pervert.

I'm not going to break down the plot or anything for you, just suffice it to say that Harvey Korman is in it three different times, Art Carney has seen better days, and Bea Arthur sings. You have to see it if you can find it, that's all I'll say for now.

The SWHS is mythical in the lore of SW fans because of the "first appearance" of Boba Fett. Quite frankly, I don't think it's that big a deal, considering how poorly it comes off.

Am I alone in my appreciation of this cheesy masterpiece?

I've seen that (when I worked at a comic shop.. I keep digging in my geeky heels, don't I).. that and that weird Sailor Moon and the 77 Thousand Balls thing.

In fact, I saw a lot of weird vids at the comic shop.

No wonder I'm nutty.

So you can concur that "Itchy" is a total horndog...

I just think how great it is that so many of the actual actors from the film (including a very stoned Carrie Fisher) appeared in it, unaware of the train wreck that was happening onscreen. I almost feel bad for them...well, not for Bea Arthur, but everyone else connected with it

Still haven't seen that yet Trevor, but then I never think about it really...........wonder why?

Did find this TV Guide blurb though....wonder if whoever wrote that could keep a straight face?

Fuck Star Wars...the Pac Man Christmas Special brings me to tears every goddamn time.
