OK, seen a fair amount of PSB fans on here along with the usual boo boys. I have all of the above but can't decide on my favourite - yet. Perhaps you can help me? I've left out the compilations because they contain all of the songs on these albums and are not studio albums which capture a mood at a certain period of time.

Introspective was the best IMHO!
Please was the best 'normal' studio album.
Alternative was also a fantastic Bsides / rarities anthology.
Very's my favourite, probably followed by Behaviour. Relentless and Disco 3 get honourable mentions for not quite being proper albums but may as well be they're so good.
I always thought of PSB as more of a singles band than an albums one (although they've got some cracking LPs) The two singles they released to promote PopArt (Miracles & Flamboyant) seemed so effortlessly catchy it's like they can churn out quality pop songs whenever they like.
Pity about Release though, but roll on the next one...
That was a real tough call-i've been thinking it over for the past 2 hours. Introspective. I'm listening to it now, while doing my work! There are some very, very close seconds though:)
I'd have to vote Please, because that's the only one I've heard all the way through. To be rectified.
I'm happy to have the suggestions though; gotta dig that crazy PSB sound.

They started experimenting with a sound that was too dancey for the label's liking and ended up making Very instead.

Yeah, can't wait for Spring next year, especially as Trevor Horn is back behind the mixing desk for Fundamental.
Thought Flamboyant was the best single they've released since the days of Very, so that bodes well.
I blame Harold Faltermeyer, as his production makes the album have this musical hard on that makes my hips sway. Behavior is my top fave album of theirs. I'm a PSB fan and enjoy their cumulative releases to date.

Guilty Partner, your list is quite incorrect. Closer to Heaven and Battleship are rather projects than proper PSB studio albums. Secondly, Alternative is A Collection (though astonishing), otherwise you should have included Discography (I bet it'd win), PopArt. 
Release is the greatest PSB album. LPs of 1985-1989 sound very dated now. While Behaviour and Very are pleasant to listen to. Bilingual and Nightlife were barely noticed by me. But the boys are genious at singles - all of them, from WEG on, are equal to those of the Beatles. The Pet Shop boys have always been a very underated band. 
Actually is getting a lot of play in my cassette player right now, but Please and Introspective are excellent, too.

Very and Behaviour for me...
Very will always stay special since it's the first "new" album I bought from them... the same year of Republic ans DM's SOFAD, 3 albums I'll always remember obviously.

Yeah, those little russian brats managed to have quite catchy tunes... they even sound better in russian!
the original Discography. it has most of their songs that i like. i'm not really into their later stuff.
Difficult one that.Probably VERY because it's the most consistant studio album.Best Compilation is ALTERNATIVE because I said it for years,most of their B-sides were better than the singles! There's not an album of theirs I dislike.But there again,I haven't got the Closer To Heaven soundtrack.ANY GOOD?
early stuff was great! west end girls, suburbia, love comes quickly, opportunities, etc...please, i think was the album.

Agreed that they are very underated and also that the 80's albums do sound a bit dated. I didn't include Discography and PopArt because all these singles are on other albums and I included Closer to Heaven and Battleship Potemkin because they were albums both fully penned by PSB.
For me, it's Behaviour because it's so absorbing. Every song is perfect against one another which isn't always the case with the others. Other highlights, Nightlife has a cracking opening track (something that is always the case with PSB - think of how Discoteca mixes into Single-Bilingual on Bilingual).
One thing that amazes ne about PSB is their depth in writing. They can write dance, rock, swing, pop, classical, whatever!

Closer to Heaven is not bad. I really like the opening 2 tracks and there is a fantastic version of 'Vampire'. It's basically PSB music sang by Calamity Jane 
A couple of nice instrumentals though. Worth buying if you can get it for about £10 or less.
I want to hear PSB do a cover of "Paranoid" and Black Sabbath do "It's a Sin."
I'd buy that for a dollar.

Can't believe, most people here gave up on PSB after 1993. So the last 12 years have been of no joy. Poor Neil and Chris. Now why should we wait for this new album? Nobody would care anyway...

They haven't released a whole lot since 1993. Nightlife has an excellent first half, but that Kylie Minogue duet song is really, really lame. Bilingual is kind of strange, although a few songs like "Red Letter Day," "Saturday Night forever," "Before," and "Metamorphosis" are rather good. Bilingual, as a whole, is very inconsistant; it starts off good, goes bland, and then redeems itself on most of the second half of the tape. Release was just dull, but the new singles off PopArt were ace, so I hope that they continue doing more dance tracks like that.
I picked NIGHTLIFE because, as a whole, this album has the best production and the best overall package. I've always seen that one as a concept album that you needed to listen to at night, when you feel lonely... and I think that's exactly what it was meant to be. For Your Own Good, Vampires and Boy Strange create fantastic atmospheres...
Also, in my mind, it's associated with one of the best live shows I've seen (the Nightlife Tour).
After that, I'd choose Very and... Release. I've never quite understood why Release was so much spit at. Because there are no dance tracks on it? Not much synthesizers? I'd wage on that. Still, it is most probably the most underestimated PSB album of them all. It has fantastic tracks on it, such as Birthday Boy and Love is a Catastrophe. Also, Home and Dry is surely a classic PSB single...
I'm happy they try different things, because that makes them interesting artists. This is why, even though I've never really been fond of the "Bilingual" album, that I didn't blame them for it.
Looking forward the new album, and hopefully a tour !

Apart from New York City boy there's not one song off Nightlife that I don't like and Bilingual has some great stuff on it - Discoteca, Single, Electricity, , It always comes as a surprise and The Survivors are brilliant
