This was a strange Christmas. I am a proper Scrooge when it comes to this time, but my 8 year old brother made me remember the enormous impact Christmas Day had on me when I was his age. Seeing him so excited this morning made me feel not only sympathy for him (his belief in Santa) but also gleeful excitememt. Having him drag me out of bed at that time rejuvinated the excitememt I would have felt all those years ago.

It seems that when you discover the truth about Santa, you've lost everything. The whole point of Christmas is to be good, and by being good, Santa rewards you. When the truth emerges, the feelings are tarnished, because it was all a lie. And that leads us to treat Christmas as another day.

Any thoughts?

For me personally, the discovery that Santa Claus was not real was not much of shock. I was much more disillusioned as I got older and saw how Santa Claus is used as a symbol to help justify the mindboggling capitalist excess that is inescapable this time of year in the Western world.

True, and that makes you feel even more of a fool for believing.

Now I know how Scrooge felt.

We need to bring back St Krampus coming through the chimney, rifling naughty children into a gunnysack filled with coal and assfucking sinful adults after midnight.

Santa is fun but i never liked how parents lie to their kids... it's like the first disillusionment for a kid, that your parents are bullshitting you deliberately

nothing wrong with capitalism... that's why you go to work. just wish people would not lie to themselves so much about exploiting others... but thats pretty much normal for all types of people. restraint/ honesty/ balance/ rationality... what we should all strive for, yeah right, like its gonna happen
