MCFC Fans urged to stop Munich Chants, Become old Ladies

Fans of Manchester City are being urged to stop using "appalling" chants about the Munich air disaster.

The official supporters club and other groups have written an open letter to fans urging them to support their team rather than goad Manchester United.

Twenty-three people, including eight members of the Busby Babes, died in the crash near Kirchtrudering in 1958.

The letter, titled "We are City, let's be proud to be blue", called those who use the chants "an embarrassment".

Authors include the Centenary Supporters Association, Mcivta newsletter and the official Manchester City Supporters Club.

Chairman Alan Garry was a school boy at the time of the crash, which also claimed the life of journalist and former City goalkeeper, Frank Swift.

"I think it's up to somebody like myself to educate people about what a tragedy and a terrible day it was," he said.

"We (the official supporters club) are taking a lead in trying to stop these people doing it. A lot of us cringe when we hear it and we are trying to do anything we can to stop it.

"It has gone on a long, long time and it's about time in our view that it stops.

"We can only try. It is nasty, and its repugnant. We only hope they'll listen and learn and stop doing it."

The open letter appeared in the programme for Manchester City's match against Chelsea and will be republished for the next game against Tottenham.

The next Manchester derby is at the City of Manchester stadium on 14 January.

The only thing I hear from football fans that i cannot stand is the monkey noises when a black geezer gets the ball.....apart from the bare racist stupidity of it...I could never understand why they went "ook ook" at the guy who just scored their fucking equalizer.

I am disturbed that so may people here attend football matches, as I had always considered wiping out every ground in the country on a saturday afteroon would raise the average IQ of the nation perceptibly.....apparently this was in error.

Yeah... I'm really confused. The only thing I can think of is so that the chant will be gone by the time the whole world has to kiss Utd's ass again in 2 years for the 50th anniversary.

I agree... I'm not offended at the racism involved though, just the lack of humor. That's as base and LCD as you can get...which I guess fits in what people say about Football fans.

I was fucked from new years day drinking.

I had a feeling the Bolton game might be on the Arab Channel or something. So, still being fucked, i decided to wait till half time before venturing to the alehouse round the corner from me (because its got the Arab Channel). Went into the pub at 4pm bang on, and would you believe it, it was the bleedin Everton/Charlton game that was on the Arab Channel, and not Liverpool. Jesus!!!Watched it anyway.

So, to cut a long story - i still aint seen the 4 goals. it was on Match of the Day and Football First last night, but i was out on the ale.

Why can't we get a match on the telly which is being played only 30 or so miles away from Liverpool, and you in America get it. fuckin Sense??

(hope Arsenal win tonight btw, but i'd settle for a nil niller).

Fox Soccer shows 4 prem matches on Saturday (A couple live a couple taped delay) There's a PPV match on Saturday and Sunday at 10 am and Fox Soccer shows most matches on Sunday and during the week. Most every team gets played more than Man City though..

But they didn't play the Liverpool/West Brom match at all...live or delay, which was pretty disappointing, that's another I'd have liked to see. Mind you I've seen yesterday's stinking Magpies/Boro match 2x already as I left the television on while sleeping. :P

I watch more footie here than I did while in Manchester haha

and yes, I'll be cheering for Arse, but I'll be in work...so I'll have to watch it through livescore.net.

'Football fans' don't, generally, make monkey noises at black players. Not in this country anyways. You're thinking of the Spanish, or Italians. They're backward cnuts when it comes to mixing race relations and football.

well maybe not fans....but someone makes the noises. I confess tho it's been a good 2-3 years since I watched a UK domestic match of any kind. In NI they just have a good old sectarian abuse session, follwed by a riot if the weather's good. F1 fans can be wankers too...watched them field strip a Benneton at Imola a coupla years ago.

Like I said, not in my country. It sounds like a good 20-30 years since you watched a 'UK' game, then you might be right.

It's true. Football here is not like that anymore. I've been going 25 odd years, and in all my time at Arsenal- never heard anything really bad- from the Arsenal fans anyway.

Been to a few suspect England games though. There are some fans that follow England that make me ashamed and sick. Especially, when England lose- then they all kick off with each other.

defo!! hull, Notts Forest, plymouth et al only follow En-ger-land in finals of World Cups etc. not arsed usually. rather watch the Prem.

Top stewarding too, they watch and laugh as an Albion fan with his girlfriend gets a barrage of homophobic abuse across the mesh divide, but as soon as he reacts they get ejected.

I just never thought anyone over there could take us on in the sick fucker stakes. Kudos :D
