Blues kick red sauce into touch Blue sauce - for fans who can't stomach the red stuff Tomato ketchup has been kicked into touch for fans at Manchester City's derby with their red rivals - in favour of a specially-prepared blue sauce.

The club's head chef John Benson-Smith has prepared the speciality for the 3,500 corporate guests.

City meet Manchester United at Eastlands on Saturday.

Mr Benson-Smith said the recipe was a closely guarded secret. "It's all natural, but its got quite a kick to it," he said.

He added: "At the end of the day, to use a well worn football expression, our blue sauce is just a bit of fun.

"But our guests take their football as seriously as we take our food preparation and presentation and I am sure that the blue sauce will come out on top."

Somebody got me some green ketchup last year, i never touched it. It's like giving kids Sunny Delight (Whizz for kids), with all the additives you'd be hyperactive!

There's a United fan at our place who refuses to use red pens or anything. Little OTT if you ask me.

I got very anti red after ferarri rigging races a few years ago.

Can I point out, the sauce isn't terribly blue is it?

Thing about sunny d is....it evetually dyes the kids that colour. Cheaper than those bottles of fake skin damage Boots sell anyway.

I find dipping them in orange dye does the same trick. BTW have you seen those sheep in Scotland? They have been tangoed. I think it's so they can see them when it snows, they must have bad eyesight up there.

That looks MASSIVELY disgusting! :barf: I mean, the real thing is RED, end of story, it's like trying to market blue lager. Would imagine somehow that the sauce tastes very bitter. And is it just me or does the photo make it look cheap & nasty? There's no silverware to be seen.

Should that not be a city fan who refuses to use red pens? Or indeed a United fan who refuses to use blue? :)

Reminds me of a story some years back of a painter & decorator from Leeds who refused to take on any jobs that involved red paint! And wasn't it also there that they built a McDonald's but changed any red in the standard "architecture" to white? Both these stories were in the tabloids so they're obviously true.
