The World Cup opening ceremony has been cancelled :wtf:

It's essential to the tournament! Aparrently they reckoned the ceremony would ruin the pitch in the Olympic stadium in Berlin

"NDTV Correspondent

Sunday, January 15, 2006:

The World Cup opening gala in Berlin has been cancelled just five months before the tournament.

The move came because of fears that the event could damage the playing surface needed at the Olympic Stadium five days later.

Berlin's Mayor Klaus Wowereit told a news conference that possible damage to the football pitch had been taken into account while planning a one of a kind opening ceremony.

The gala's artistic director Andre Heller had auditioned and trained a cast of more than 5,000 volunteers for the spectacle. "

It sounded odd though that there wasn't a game scheduled for straight after the ceremony. The first game in that stadium is 5 days into the tournament.Usually they have the opening ceremony followed by the opening game. All in the same stadium.

Err... I didn't talk about the team. I meant the real hooligans. There are fights on lonley fields somewhere in the middle of nowhere, where hooligans of all nations go and beat the shit out of each other. They do their own WM. I read that in a serious magazine...
