Had one of those vacuum cleaner sales people on the phone for most of the weekend. You try to be polite at first, but they just will not fcuk off. He'd already talked my wife into agreeing to an appointment on Saturday morning, which I had to call him to cancel. Most irritating was the fact that he'd been given my details (quite a lot of details too) by a neighbour. The icing on the cake was when the neighbour came over to winge to us about cancelling the appointment - turns out he would have got a 'free gift' if we'd gone ahead with the demonstration!

We get crappy sales calls all the time. It started off with polite no thank yous. It then progressed to no we've already got 'double glazing, new kitchen' etc etc etc, to 'no we haven't got a mortgage now' to any other lie I could think of...... some of them were actually true. And the number of new mobile phones we are offered on a daily basis...........  This is all despite having that thingy bob with BT so it blocks - apparently - these calls. So last week, someone rang and you always know when it's one of those calls, because there are a few seconds delay/silence before the call comes through from somewhere or other not the UK(which it is usually ok?) and they asked for me........I just said I was dead - hopefully that will do it.

I told a woman who called the other day that I have signed to the Telephone Preference Service. She said that they do use the TPS database, but as the system was down that day.

I once told powergen that I didn't need electricity cos I had my own steam generator in the back garden, told 'em it was left to me by my grandad :) I told 'em I was producing enough electricity to power the street and if they needed to buy any off me I had a very competative price! They've never called since :)

No, not Kirby - Rainbow or something.

This is them

I have heard about Kirby though - they are the same idea (old-looking vacuum cleaner with water in it to clean the air.

We didn't let him in to do the demonstration. I asked on the phone how much the cleaners were and he refused to say: "we don't speak about price at this stage". I've heard stories of them costing well over £1,000. The sales guy was using every pressure-sales trick in the book to get his appointment, including using all the personal information that he got from our neighbour (who has not heard the last of this).

Interesting to hear that there might be a religeous link.

that is where they get their psycological high pressure sales scemes from. needless to say the sales people are totally brainwashed.
