but NO. Not a good idea to legalise any sort of drugs.

It would be no fuckin fun takin drugs if they were legal :\ohwell:

and who would want their children takin drugs?

You're definitely no angel. In whatever context you choose on that one........cos I am in fact, take advantage of the fact, I am in serious mode tonight.

Why is it not a good idea to legalise it? You smoke right? That is an addictive drug.

I of course, dont want my kids to take drugs of any kind - I know my youngest wont ever - but I cant say that for my daughter; I am not the greatest example amd I? Drinks and fags are drugs at the end of the day........but they are legal! This one could go on forever..............:)

For the way I feel, right now, yes.

i don't know the answer to this question. i am not adverse to the odd smoke. as a matter of fact i had one last week. these days i just don't go looking for it.

there are people who i went to school with who i fully would have expected to run the country by now who have becaome total drop outs, because of it. my best friend at high school became a heavy doper, and it was his only interest in life for many years. he became a very boring person to be with.

then there are the well documented effects on mental health alluded to above. plus don't think it won't give you lung cancer, well you could use a bong, but it is still smoke.

perhaps just leave it as it is. those who want it can always get it.

My bro is now paying the price for keeping me awake til like 5 or something with ugly trance music ( I was up again at 6:50). Motivation radio at full power. Should do his hangover the world of good, tho I for one can think of few things nicer to wake to than "hello dawn".

My mate, the one I mentioned before, is convinced that the original temptation 12" sounds like searchin for the spark???!!!?!!?!

How can anyone say nasty things about weed and own a hi-fi???

Definitely not. I've already explained my reasons on other threads on this subject before, so I won't bore you lot by going through them all again.

I will say this, though; drink's safer than drugs because when you drink, you know exactly what's going to happen to you and you can take steps to prevent it, or at least to minimise the damage (e.g. drinking water or soft drinks between boozy ones to stop yourself getting drunk). You can't really say the same about drugs; they could have anything in them and once they're in your body, you can't stop whatever's going to happen. I certainly know what one I'll be sticking with.

There is not "drink, and drugs" drink is a drug, please be clear on this, there are txable drugs and untaxable drugs is all. Alcohol is one of THE most dangerous and toxic drugs around. As for the issue of adulteration, do you worry about what's in yer fags or booze? no, cos they are legal and quality controlled, exactly the same would be true for cannabis were it legal, not glue, shite, and god knows what. Would you know what you were drinking in the USA under prohibition?

It worries me how many people here take the petty laws of one tiny country as some sort of scientific Cuttoff point. Cannabis is bad cos it's ilegal, drink is good cos it isn't. Thing is, a pot head can go any number of places where it IS legal, where can a drinker go where drink is not a liver toxin.

And of course, next time you see Belfast ripped apart, see how many people are full of drink, and how many are tea-total pot smokers.

legalization will mean more control, an end to dodgy shite being sold and generate huge new tax revenues.

I already asked if anyone here would take it up if legalized and we've had NO takers, so the "increased use" argument falls down (as it did during prohibition of booze in the US).

Ever argument that can be offered against it is based, like yours on an upbringing in a country where it IS ilegal, and lumped in with things like H and ketamine. And that's another point....we tell children 2all drugs are bad, pot and coke are the same thing, just as evil"....so a chap takes a smoke of a joint, doesn't rape anyone, doesn't turn blue, doesn't have a single thing happen to him.....he then thinks he's been lied to, and treats all drugs as just as harmless....result, a Darwin award, like my mate who got Hooked on H and got himself killed....bad luck, we lost a fucktard is all.

booze is SO good for you, it nearly kiled my mother and lead to me living in hell for 5 years.

EDIT: sorry folks I'm only out me pit, reading that back it comes over as nastier and much more "at miss disco" than was intended. Sorry Miss, especially since I found out recently you are "nooler-1" the original y'might say. Another achievment for NI (and no English commentatoers around to steal it :D )

Absolutely not.

In short, yes.

Would I take it up if it were legal? No.

I like the premise of "government control" as far as legalization goes, but it toes a line in my head with the bangup job the government here is doing already with legal prescriptions being released without adaquate testing and study.

I don't have kids yet, but I don't intend to lie to them about drugs because I was lied to and I wound up testing a lot of stuff out of a purely curious nature. If my kids are going to play chemist, I want to be the one who tells them what to really expect and see if they are so keen on getting on with a lot of it.

Melly you fell in the vat anyway :D

Wise words bout yer kids. Personally I would fucking crack up if any kid of mine started smokin weed or drinking while still being educated, cos NO psychoactive of any kind should be allowed near your brain til it's good and ready. nothing more disgusting than a drunk 12 yrold, tellin you "fuck off cunt".

i WAS about to say your were being daft by comparing prescription drugs to it, since it's the big drug companies that push things out untested, despite the efforts of your FDA, I was also going to point out that most prescription drugs are complex compounds that do not occur in nature, and that weed is a flower (making god's creation a crime tut tut).

Then it occured to me that were it legal, as in totally openly legal, it wouldn;t be long before it got warped and weirded and altered like tobacco has been, new and interesting marketing ploys, delivery methods, the lot. Maybe the best option is like Holland, where it's not a criminal offence as such but under some circumstances you can still be done.

Still, those who believe it's wrong, do what Bill Hicks said, go home, take all your tapes and CD's and burn 'em, cos the guys that made all the wonderful music that has enhanced and enriched your life....REAL fuckin high on drugs. Just think if the police were effective in their anti-drugs measures and the law was 100% enforced, New Order would have been banged up LONG ago.

Hmmm... Tough question.

Maybe it should be legalised to over 21's only or something.

From what i've seen it really can interrupt social development particularly from an early stage of adolescence. Everyone knows a recluse on dope, whilst the majority have dabbled successfully and are completely unaffected (like me).

My brother was one of those who got hooked and freely admits it caused him pretty much to stay in and not get a job from the age of 16 to 24. I remember one New years eve he refused to go out because the pub he was invited to wouldnt allow him out for a quick smoke every half hour or so. He got the odd temporary job but got removed cos of his addiction, and had to resort to setting up a casual gardening business, using customers greenhouses to cultivate his habit.

He is now 31 and misses those years of youth/social development; making friends, etc. Alcohol is more physically damaging but at least it's an interactive drug on a social level ( although this might be because it's legal).

Perhaps the mental problems are caused by the illegality of it (i.e. it makes you insular), but I think it's more than that. No one takes ecstasy on their own and that's far more illegal.

Hell yes. I'd like to be able to grow a headache remedy in my garden. I'd like to have a legal pain reliever that does not burn a hole in my stomach and destroy my kidneys. Increase the fines for Driving While Stoned and Public Highness.

Yes we all know alcohol kills more, destroys more families and is harder on one's body. Why is it legal and weed illegal?

shit...can't remember what me answer was gonna be on this.

I think you may have just called a large % of NOOL's 'terminally dull'...and of course, New Order are therefore 'terminally dull'?

Not convinced G has. And I think you're wrong about the Order, I hardly think they're full-on potheads.

Which would then make them 'terminally dull'.

And I'd like to think a large % of NOOL'ers prefer something with just a bit more kick!

Well considering a "full on pot head" would be the analogue of a full time piss head, ie a totally worthless bum, I think yer right. But NO...the crisps and cola band? I think not.

I say no more....

Cheers! :spit:

That's because more people drink alcohol.... :brow:

As for legality... not like anybody is doing anything about it over here anyways..

Problem is, if you legalize it, you'll have to live with the consequences of it, like addiction and other stuff... this is going to cost a lot more than it should.

But on some other way, I always wondered why drugs aren't allowed.. if you do them at home and you stay there while using them, who are we to say what you can do or not then?

Just avoid using them in society and nobody will ever complain!

how the heck can SIR Paul "The Prick" McCartney get a knighthood when it was well known that he was a daily pot smoker for 30 years?

what next, Pete Docherty - OBE?
