Should Cannabis be Legalised...

..and if not, due to the 'health risks', should alcohol therefore be outlawed?

Discuss.

(This is in response to the recent UK Government review of the downgrade of cannabis from class B to class C, in which they decided to leave it as class C, but have (again) advised that it may not be very good for you).

Not a lot to say really is there. course it aint good for you NOTHING fun is. But in terms of it's intended effetcs vs it's side effects it's probably the best compromise for a drug of choice that I have yet found. You don't turn in to a total dickbrain and start stabbing yer mates, you don't throw up (usually :D) Besdies, legalize it and it will not make that many more people smoke, those who do will get quality gear and not rat shite and coffee grounds bound with glue(source: legalize cannabis alliance study), so if anything potential health problems will decrease. And MOST importantly it will remove a massive amount of income from hoods....something that is VITAL in a place like NI or any inner city.

You cannot say weed is bad and booze is good, it's daft, and you'll go a long way to find a doctor (who's on no one's payroll) who'll say anything so dumb....actually the Govts chief medical officer once stated that alcohol was inherently more dangerous and toxic than heroine!

Let me ask a quickie tho...

Anyone here consider suddenly taking it up if it were legalized? After all, increased consumption is a major "anti" argument.

Yes ....it should. And this has nothing to do with the 'frivolity' aspect; but there have been proven health issues on this...my Sis-inLaw has had chronic arthritis in her hands since she was 16 years old! and her hands are uttlerly deformed. She has had enormous amounts of new treatment now, most of which are steroids, which invariably cause awful side effects. The only things that now give her any relief are those related to cannibis; I know there has to be a fine line, but the Govt are OK for us to drink ourselves silly and smoke ourselves silly - it's a bit of a joke where the 'weed' is concerned really...

Might I add on this, despite all that, she is a very strict irish catholic and related or not, she has very strong moral issues on just about EVERYTHING - so, she has issues with it........she now works a 40 hour week for the NHS and is now a single parent with a 16 year old lad. She has to support him and her singlehandedly; she's in pain a lot of the time - what would you do? Cos I know I would!

It's along the lines of 'should drugs be tested on animals'?; in theory no, but if they weren't I would probably be dead - or in a vegetative state anyway...much the same. I wouldn't wear fur, I don't wear make up tested on animals, but you know, we are human and we need certain things at certain times..........legalise it for gods sake.........everyone's gonna use it anyway and kids are od'ing on booze and e's everyday of the week...... it's a bit like saying shall we give 15 year olds contraception...........speech over.....relax now.:)

I will add at this point, just to avoid any later confusion, that I am completely in favour of it being legalised. :smoker:

I am all for freedom of choice, and if I am allowed to go out and drink myself stupid, why can't I smoke myself stupid? (and where stupid is concerned, smoking is the better of the 2). My brother is a Psychiatric Nurse, and has looked after far more patients because of the effects of alcohol than those affected by cannabis. I really don't believe that millions of people are suddenly going to rush out and buy weed just because it is legal - if you want some now, you can get it, everyone knows someone.

Maybe some input from The Dutch Order may be useful?

I think you may have just called a large % of NOOL's 'terminally dull'...and of course, New Order are therefore 'terminally dull'?

Ok....discuss please.

It's a matter of opinion. Whatever get's you through the night..........and all that. The question was whether it should be legalised or not, and not should it only be legal or if you a richard!:) Sir.

I'm havin a laugh fella. Whatever turns you on. It's just never pushed my buttons. I don't get the buzz. In fairness I'm usually using it to try and knock myself uncoscious after tanning loads of Class A's so I'm probably not the best judge.

Professional "smokers" are dull though. I satnd by that. Drugs of any kind aint good for ya long term. Holding one up as being somehow more honourable and "like, totally natural man" is wrong.

No, it makes you dopey (hence its name), and it robs you of drive, determination, aspiration, and achievement. It also causes you to become mentalist later in life. (schiziophenic? Im bleedin quadrophenic ! to quote one Jimmy Cooper from a well known WHO film) I know you will all say but yeh, what about alcohol ?, but beer causes cheer whilst dope crushes all hope.

I hope that is a joke? Is that the same 'cheer' people have whilst in the process of wrapping a bottle of becks around some poor sod's head, because he looked at someone's girlfriend 'the wrong way' (or spilt a pint)?!!

the fatal dose is however....a 10 kilo block/bale dropped on your head from 100ft.

Shall I ring casualty in the morning to see how many shiney happy cheery beer drinkers popped in tonight :D I been fairly hammered all and I've recorded and half mixed two songs, cooked the dinner and cleaned me house.

It IS a killer in some respects, but booze and drugs whilst both being addictive, are totally different in every possible aspect.....OK depends upon the drug and the one in question is cannabis......different story to different narcotics!

What exactly is a professional smoker? I wouldn't like to do it for a living particularly, although it would be better than my current job!!

Oh all sorts of things can kill you if you overdose. take 25 paracetamol sme times and see how you feel. Fine, for 3 days, then you die from liver failure. there is however no documented fatal dose of cannabis....that's not to say it doesn't exist, I mean, by the time your blood is 20% THC it's unlikely to flow properly. But it does mean, no one's ever needed to get that wasted :D Nicotine in it's pure form is fatal on skin contact !

( I smoke fags BTW, I'm just poiting out the sillines)

Oh, great now you tell me. I have like, 20-30 square red patches all over my body...............everybody trying to quit - sod it, light a fag instead and get rid of those patches - or those very very very determined - just go cold turkey and stop dreaming about 4ft rabbits! LOL Steve.
