show me a picture of a fractal designed one before a HUMAN (Dr Benoit Mandelbrot, if you don't count Julia who skirted the edges before him) discovered chaos THEORY, iterative non-linear equations and fractal geometry..... oh there aren't any..... how fucking odd.....yer aliens can build a warp drive, but need us to do their maths?

gotta admire the people that do them and keep them in shape. I heard they spin around with a piece of string and a plank of wood to cut them, but I doubt it. I should really do some research on the matter but I won't/.

Actully circles go WAY back, but as soon as they got talked about all the silliness kicked in.

Heard many a theory, from microbursts to magnetic gobbledegook.

And I've SEEN FAIRLY round things in the barley fields we used to live near, caused by animals and even birds. I've also, in a small support for the microburst idea seen the wind howling over a field and stomp ONE tiny bit of it flat

(oddly enough, a phenomenon surely reltaed to Chaos and sensitivie dependence on intitial condiditons.....the butterfly effect doesn't ONLY work globally....a single ear of corn could easily cause the wind to do something fucked up and, as I describe, just go "splut" on a small area of crop)

It is worth noting that the "old" (ie, pre tinfoil hatted dribbler) crop circles were NOT geometricaly perfect.

Anyone here live near big fields seen what I mean?

Steve, I like/agree with your theory. However, there was a documentary on The Discovery Channel profiling two elderly men who started making these (somewhere around Birmingham UK I think) for their own amusment. I can't remember the details...has anyone else seen this program?

the must be old, I have read reports of circles as old as the 1600's :D

Like I said, the ever so precise ones are a modern con, but there was a something there before too.

Maybe if somebody planted a field of corn under one of Nasa's launch pads we could put this one to bed :D

Aye....easy to come up with one rational and possible "why"......they were making messages to be read by the God's....but the "how" takes a bit of explaining.

The Spaceport idea hold's little water...... why that one spot, why not nearer the equator (if yer building a spaceport you want it on the equator, you can either take my word for it, listen to me rave about it all day, or spin a wet tennis ball for a demo).

there's somewhere in North American too where odd weather conditions cause stones to go for a journey accross the plain. MUST be aliens the nutters said...what else COULD it be. untill someone showed that a bit of water turned the local soil into clay slips and a decent wind could play curling with itself there.

Again I would particularly like to see one of a fractal design prior to the discovery of fractals by a human being....actually i will make it easy for you..... show me one from before the mid 80's when chaos and fractals bubble into the public light of day.

Doesn't it strike you as odd that an alien race would be smart enough to cross interstellar space, security conscious enough to avoid majot population centres, favouring rural areas instead.....and yet stupid enough to land slap band in the middle of the most obvious footprinting material around......then place "piss in the snow" with their landing thrusters?

I mean maybe we're dealing with creatures of nasa's (current)calibre...... send a probe to a a planet and miss a population centre by miles :D

Let's presume it is aliens... maybe they started fractal communication because it was becoming better understood by the masses... Although I have now idea as to how the hell we are supposed to translate them...

...or maybe the messages aren't meant for us... maybe they are meant for other aliens... if you believe in aliens you have to believe in more than one alien race and that maybe some of those races have unusual ways of communicating with one another...
