I'm about to break my own cardinal law. Despite being half way through my community 2 tunes I am about to upgrade a core component of my digital audio system....one that is actually USED in the C2 tracks and all.

If you never hear from me again, it's because my tunes went all Jon Zorn and I've beaten myself to death with a midi interface unit.

I'm scared now punched the kvm switch over to the DOS-Xp machine a couple of times and the mouse has hovered over "setup.exe" a few times.

I mean really, has anyone ever seen a sentence with "windows" and "backward compaitibilty" that didn't also have words like "utter lack of" or " laughably poor" in it :D

Fuck it, you only live once, community2 can live without snss if it allgoes wrong.

plunging!

Yes I got away with it....beacuse the authors, knowing they could never hope to do compatibilty....simple made V1.4 andV2.0 perfectly content to co-exist. Phew

Must...have...SNSS!

I've got a ton of unused server space if you need to park a couple of demos for the people.

very kind of you sir... I'll let you know.

BTW is it just me or do ALL reverb plugins sound like a fookin alesis midiverb...even the waves ones FFS.

I liked the Super Nintendo Sound System too.

At this point is wish they did sound like the midiverb. Logic's Space Designer used to sell for, what, $400, and now it's included and it's still overpriced. I plugged in my old Alesis Quadraverb for a monitor mix, and it sounded great in comparison.

If there is a good reverb plugin, someone please let me know what it is.

Jeeez my mate was waxing MOST lyricalabout space designer the other day while I was whining about cubase sounding like a £20 stompbox. Should have known it was Platinum propaganda.

there are little lexicon style plugins ...PSP nitro among others that are SWEET, but they are very much BIG DEAL effects and not something you can plop on a send (not that I've tried).

I'm starting to think about an old bassamp and a mic out in the back yard as the best verb I can get.

I will be checking out Waves IR later today, hopefully not even windows can cunt up an IR based convolution reverb.

It seems to be a PC thing actually, like a PC's dumb processor can't come up with the right reverb density, stupid as that sounds.

I will let you know how waves checks out.

I'm trying to figure out what Bentley's got going on on his screen in his Community profile photo.

Methinks I see some Bomb Factory action at the top.

Close, but not Bomb Factory. ;) I use a UAD-1 so it's an 1176LN compressor. I'm pretty sure I was working with my vocal chain so you're seeing the compressor, Cambridge EQ, and Magneto to help saturate the vox a bit. A few things are hidden elsewhere in the chain, but that's what I was tweaking at the time. In my hand I've got the remote for my KSP-8 which is my main reverb box... speaking of reverbs.

I haven't found a good reveb plug in either... to my ears anyway.

Steve, good luck with your updrade.:thumb:

Errrmmmm

Music doesn't come from records, it comes rom sad lifeless pricks like me, Bentley, Gnu, Steve Morris and Bernard Sumner.

How would you rather we described the tools we use......

"that tunnelly noise" "the echoey thing" "that thing that makes piano noises and things"

WEHEY, YOU GOT IT. Thats EXACTLY how i would like you to put it.Cheers. Oh and do you think putting yourself in the same company as messers Morris and Sumner is pushiing it a bit?

Not really, since I refer not to talent but technical prowess, and in that respect I'm quite sure any of us could hold our own with those guys (albeit Bernard has knowlege of circuit level electronics I for one, do not). In fact I have a good bit of proof but i the above upset you, the explanation of this would make you bleed from the eyes.

And "tunnelly noise" is all well and good...... but when you're trying to discuss which particular provider of "tunnelly noise" sound most like a tunnel and least like a masturbating dalek, it's very hard to avoid specifics.

If music technology is something of which you have no interest, then stay out of the fucking conversation. Sounds like you're the one in need of a life, a shag, or a sedative if you get so uptight about reading this sort of stuff.

After reading your Community 2 profile, Bentley, I need to find and post a photo of my early "studio" -- two cassette decks, Radio Shack mixer, Mattel Synsonics drum machine, Roland RS-202 String Machine.

No fi. But I evidently thought it was worth a photo.

Speaking of impulse responses, there are a bunch online at noisevault.com. I hope the Roland Space Echo ones are good.

Campo, you must be rich to own all this amazing software. Royalty cheques from Community, I guess. ;)

P.S. Do you do any 5.1 surround with that Kurzweil box? I'm fascinated with the idea of surround, but I can't imagine I know anyone who could play it back.

Yeah... I understand all about the no-fi stuff. You were more high tech with the RS mixer. I used y-adapters. I don't think I have any photos of that old setup but have a few of my rigs through the years. My lack of ability to make my recordings sound like a record is what fueled my interest in all this nonsense in the first place.

I haven't gotten into 5.1 yet because of the reason you stated along with the masive expense of adding another 3 monitors and a sub. Besides, I haven't mastered the art of mixing in stereo yet! ;) The Kurzweil box is really fantastic though. You can hear it on Community and the EP as the main effects on my vocals.

Amen. That's exactly what I thought to myself last week when I was eyeing a cheapo 5.1 setup ... "Dude, make the two speakers you have sound good first."

I'm far more into doing good surround or at least whacky images, in good old stereo. 5:1 = bucks.

As for software, we beg, we borrow, we steal (on a temporary basis....when the coffers fill up we pay up)

I'm shuttling in and out of the kitchen and the radio is on in there - 6 Music. There's a programme on that's just the same as listening to you guys. All about synths and stuff - might be worth a listen.
